Poor Quality Insurance Repairs

Poor quality bumper and grille replacement repair by insurers. Parts are light weight, pliable with clips showing in part

Insurers have been compliant so far, but now been referred to a different department after my refusal to return to their original garage!

I know that the repairs need to match original VV standards and condition T6 2017 and wonder if anybody has advice or similar experiences?
Thanksxx

Insurers don't like it, but you have a legally protected right to choose where the vehicle goes for repair. When some chump drove into through Wife's parked car some years ago I insisted it went to a manufadturer approved bodyshop for the very reasons you've sadly discovered. The insurers got jolly batey, but tough tit.

It sounds as if theyve perhaps stuck yours back together with poor quality pattern parts?

THANKS - We all need support sometimes. Def poor quality! (I posted a video)
As you say, they have legal obligations.
I will insist it gets put right by a VW accredited garage now and that's after over 7 weeks in repair

I’ve replaced a rear bumper, the VW OEM was garbage quality, I’ve put stronger supermarket meat trays in recycling bin. The pattern part from Travelin-lite was equally poor, clips are like chocolate, good for one attempt at fitting only.
The days of bumpers being bumpers passed in the early 2000’s

Unfortunately the bodyshops don't really have a say in what parts can be used anymore. After an estimate has been done, it get intercepted by lKQ to show what non gen parts it can supply. It's completely wrong because we can't say oh this car is really clean or he's an enthusiast because they don't care about the customer or the bad rap that the bodyshop gets. Ask for an assessor to come out and show his what you are unhappy with. Try to be nice and not get aggressive as they are more willing to see it from your point of view instead of just a policy number.

Yeh, the insurers are now they are making it clear if you want to exercise your right to use a manufacturer approved repairer they will agree but an excess will be levied for this privelidge - circa £200 on my new insurance quote

They didn't for us. Mind you, the other driver was paying in our case.

Even if they had, id take that as a win and have - in our case - genuine BMW parts, fitted by trained BMW personnel, using BMW supplied paint (it was a mica finish), and all the bodywork and corrosion warranties left intact, and a nice certificate from BMW to prove it. When your van rusts and VW won't honour the perforation warranty because some work experience lad from Buttcrack Motors on the industrial estate has worked on it in the past you'd regret trying to save the shekels.

The only thing they can do beyond that, and make stick, is decline to do the running around for quotes. But thats fine - the dealer sent me the quote and I forwarded it to the insurer and told them to do what they want, thats where it was being fixed. They don't like it up 'em one little bit because they lose their weighty discounts, but those discounts are based on bottom drawer workmanship and pattern parts from Timbuktu, so sod 'em.

Bottom line is you're lawfully entitled to be restored to the position you enjoyed prior to the claim in all respects ie, repairs of quality comparable to the original state of the vehicle, and any remaining warranties (including bodywork or corrosion) restored or maintained. Anyone coming to view the OPs van in the future with a view to buying it is liable to spot to poor quality parts and fitment and that will in turn lessen the value of the vehicle - that is unacceptable, and the insurer must move to restore him (or her in this instance?) to the position he enjoyed prior to the damage, or else give him the cash to be able to do so.
