Ply batten adhesive

Hi everyone,

Just picked up our new 2013 Transporter and starting to strip the back ready for conversion.

I have cut the battens for the floor and wanted some opinions on what to stick them down with.

My plan is to get a ply floor with the holes for the kombi rear seats and then secure it with the lashing points and cups, that way it cant really move around and wont need screwing down to the battens... (?)

I am just wondering if i can use silicone sealant to stick the battens down as they wont be screwed into and just used to level the floor (and could be removed more easily than something like Sikaflex if necessary).

Any advice or opinions welcome (be gentle I'm new to this )!

Cheers, Dub

I used Sikaflex 221 to stick the battens to the floor and then again to attach the floor to the battens. Been solid for the last 3 years.

When you placed the plywood flooring on top of batons with adhesive in between what was the thickness of the adhesive? How much pressure did you apply on floor to batons?

I know this was a little while ago, but I’m posting for future people for I have an experience of two types of adhesive. The clear stick like sh** and sika 221. One side of the floor was sika and the other side was STS

My floor has 9mm batons and 9mm plywood with dodo mat duo pro inbetween (it created high spots which were compressed as I was screwing it down, but the dodomat compress ultimately caused the STS to fail and the batons came loose.) The sikaflex side did not fail and I don’t think i’d use anything other than sikaflex in the future. Massive headache to fix!

Any polyurethane adhesive should do it.

It stays rubbery so has the chance to breath and move with the van.

SLS drys hard/solid so can fail with the movement of the van.

Hi, just starting my van conversion journey. I lifted up the 12mm ply floor & it's in great condition so will reinstall it. Looking at putting some ply batons down with Sikaflex. My question is which one? Have seen people recommend 522.
