Plastic car ramps

Been looking at getting some plastic car ramps for when service the van etc and just genneral use if i need to get under it.

My dad has some old school metal ones i could borrow, but the van will just plough into them and would take the bumper off. So was looking at the lower profile plastic ones.

Does anybody have any and can give their opinion on them? I have seen 2,3,5,7, tonne ones etc but will they actually take the weight? Im guessing so or they wouldnt be advertised that way.

Anyway if you have any what you think of them?

I had the same problem using my old metal ramps when my van was on Solows. I just built the front of the ramp up with some planks to make a more gradual rise.

I personally wouldn't use plastic.

I have had my T30 van on them in various configurations (both front, both rear and both side wheels) during my conversion and reccomend them as advertised. Good strength and wide enough even for my uprated swamper wheels

If I need a bit of height I just jack it up and put an off-cut of railway sleeper under each wheel as needed. With some 9x2 I’ll reverse off (guess I could drive on too!)

I used my fiamma levelling ramps a couple of weeks ago to go underneath and they were fine. I have now bought the additional backstop chocks as the van rolls off with not much effort!

I bought a set of Rhino heavy duty plastic ramps off eBay - rated to 5 tonnes like these.
I've used them for years now with both of my vans. My old T5.1 was lowered 50mm and on wide 275/40/20's and accommodated these fine (most metal ramps seem to be much narrower). It would just clear the ABT (and later T6.1) front spoiler driving onto them slowly. My T32 T6 is stock height/swamper so no issues.
They're much lighter and easier to move around than metal ramps and they stack so save space.

I've got some of the yellow (Fiamma I think) levelling ramps - they don't offer a lot of height, but they will raise a low car up if you want to get a jack under it.
I have also recently bought some of these off Amazon - DPT 2pcs Low Profile Car Ramps Honeycombed Channel Loading Maintenance Non?Slip Tool : Amazon.co.uk: Business, Industry & Science - for £30. Anything I've seen similar is at least 3 times the price.
They are split so the ramp section can be removed and you've then got space to push your jack underneath - these are ideal as I can get my jack under the chassis rails on the Clio. They're not very high, so I doubt I'd get under a car when it was only on these.

I always use my plastic ramps when crawling underneath just remember to park in gear and chock the wheels .
If i'm gonna be swinging on anything I have 2 big chunks of tree that I slide underneath.

Thats useful to know - lots of camping pitches are gravel!!

I've used ours on gravel for the past 12 years without any problems.
Our motorhome ramps on the other hand have split and become deformed from using them on gravel .
So i suppose its down to which ones you buy .

I’m referring to the big ones that are comparable to the old steel ones to allow you work under the van.
