Parking

Hi All,

Just joined and really need a quick and honest answer. We are about to take a big step and buy our first camper. Probably a T6. Big question is, can I park it outside my house? Don't want to pee off the neighbours. Sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times.

Unless there’s a specific clause or a road safety issue I’m pretty sure you can park what you like outside your house if yo do need a permit and you have one it’ll be an issue for your neighbours not you. I’m not a legal authority or anything but I’m sure this is true.

You can park anywhere on the highway within the legal constraints as long as the vehicle is MOT’d, taxed and insured.
I’m struggling to see why your neighbours would worry about that but if you want a definitive answer you be better off asking them surely.

It’s just a van…. Is there any other vans down your road or large SUV types surely? If you can park a car outside your house you can park a van

Some restrictive covenants might be in place on what type of vehicles you can't park on your private drive, namely caravans, lgv's etc .....is that what you mean ?
Check your deeds.
On the road is a different matter. As above

Do you mean because you won't use it very often and will therefore be a street ornament?

I'd say it depends on the street, how many other vehicles you are parking there, etc.

Also, how much you care about annoying your neighbours...

Yeah same here. No caravans, boats, work vans, etc. Never gets enforced.
Most restrictive covenants are not enforced as they vary from property to property, even neighbours have different ones, and its down to other residents to take the legal route which is very costly

@donnydubs If your talking about parking on the street i take it you have no drive if thats the case like us we make sure its parked outside our house so no one gets the chance to moan about it being outside their house which means swapping cars about when we go away and the advantage is the van is covered by the front security camera.

No need to apologise for asking the question or parking you vehicle. Your neighbours own the land on their deeds not the highway.

Agreed. Restrictive covenants are usually placed by the property developer to ensure the estate looks nice and tidy until all the houses have sold. The developer then moves on to the next project and couldn’t care less about the previous job. The covenant is usually enforced by the holder (property developer) and getting them to enforce it after the fact is nigh on impossible. Hence they are universally ignored.

Assuming it’s an adopted highway and not a shared private access.
