P0471 engine management light on.

Looks like exhaust pressure sensor. Is this the same as a dpf pressure sensor?

i had a look in my engine bay It’s the 2.0 diesel and it looks like the sensor is behind the engine, between the engine and the bulk head. Looks hard to get too.

Pretty sure that they are two different sensors, I recently had a failure of my DPF differential pressure sensor and it brought up the error code pictured.Screenshot_20200609_145328.jpg

That sounds more specific for dpf. Maybe mine is more exhaust related after all. Can’t wait to get an electric van!

P0471 suggests it's implausible signal (~out of range) from a exhaust pressure sensor. I think the DPF differential pressure sensor is the only one for pressure on exhaust side.

Actually the DPF pressure sensor is easy to replace from the top - when engine is cold ;)

Thanks mmi, did you use/find a workshop guide to switch over the sensor. I normally follow a YouTube tutorial for my golf, I was surprised to see there ain’t a lot of info out there for transporters.

Do you recommend getting a Ross tech vcds to recalibrate the sensor. I have been using a cheap Bluetooth code reader for my golf and transporter but think it might be useful to have more control with the proper vcds. I guess there is no other way to recalibrate the sensor?

I had that fault and it caused the regeneration to stop eventually the van went into limp mode with a clogged DPF VW assist came to my home and replaced the sensor(which had a service upgrade noted for my vin), carried out a forced regen and it has been faultless ever since.
my advice is not to keep driving too far until it’s done.(I only just got away with the ash loading for a regen)

Depends on the engine - either or:

P. 432 in the above (EU5 engines)
P. 305 in the latter (EU6 engines)

Is yours EU5 engine (no AdBlue)?

Most likely VCDS is capable of doing this. VW did the replacement for me as it was warranty work (EU6 engine).

Interestingly in the Workshop Manual for EU6 engine there is no explicit mention of need to adapt the sensor - unlike for EU5 engines.

Have the EU6 engine. Phoned vw this morning and they will do it under a recall. The fuel line also has a recall on it. Should I have been contacted by vw before this became a problem or do they just ignore the recalls until it becomes a problem?

I think they are classed as a "Service Action" which means they do them when it is presented for a service or you report it and book it in.

Van is now in for recall they have just phoned to say they can’t do the software update/ exhaust sensor as there is a engine light on for the EGR valve they are trying to charge 260 pounds for an EGR flush So they can update the software. Think this a little unfair, what would you do? EGR is prob blocked because of the constant exhaust regens the faulty sensor was causing?

Just got the van back. They took some convincing but agreed to clear the EGR fault without the flush and went ahead with the software/pressure sensor change. Van seems back to normal now. :)
