Over sizing cables

I am currently planning my electric installation and itching to get started. I’m wondering is there any reason not to over size a cable? For example, I haven’t decided what downlighting I want to install yet so rather than hold everything up, can I just go with 2.5mm wiring which would give me plenty of overhead? (Normally 1.5mm would be sufficient). Another example, for the vehicle battery to a victron dc-dc charger, the manual suggests 16mm, is it ok to go up a size (or two)?

100% definitely over sizing cables is a great idea.

That what I always do.

Your 12v system will thank you for it.

I run in 2.5mm and 4mm for lighting.

25mm2 for dc-dc charger.

Etc etc

The only thing to keep an eye on is the terminal sizes on the victron controler, where they say 16mm2 terminals... But you can just use a pin ferule end crink to over come that.

Take a look at the schematic section...

It puzzles me that a 25mm2 wont fit into the Voctrn dc-dc but put a ferrule on, adding more material, then it will fit. 🤔

A PIN Ferule. .... Used as a reducer.

I assume the ferrules have the same amp rating as the cable size they are stepping down from?
