Over night stay in while driving through France.

Hi all, we are travelling to Biscarose in France in the summer and Crossing at Calais. I'm hoping to drive about 3 hours from Calais before stopping for an over night stay. Has anyone travelled this route and can recommend a good spot to stay (hotel as we aren't set up for camping yet) I think Le Mans might be a bit further than we want to travel in 1 day. Thanks.

We generally use Ibis Budgets for a stop en-route to our final desitination. Fairly basic, but clean, and usually can accomodate the whole family in one room. Some have swimming pools which can be nice after a drive. Opt for the fringes of any town for secure free parking and avoids time spent in traffic,

Yes, we've been caught out with F1's before with communal bathrooms off of corridor and no air con in 40 degree heat. Double checked the rates to see if you could book by the hour in case it was that kind of establishment.

Hi

Just picking up on this thread if I may. I've got to catch a 6am ferry from Calais to Dover and was hoping to find somewhere to overnight/camp in my van nearby Calais the night before. Being off-season, camp sites might be closed and/or may not be friendly to vehicles leaving at the crack of dawn, so I was toying with idea of parking up in the ferry terminal. I imagine it'll be noisy, but are there any facilities for that? Any thoughts or alternatives would be appreciated. Thanks!

Search for sites app has loads of places listed.

Not sure if this is on route for you? When we are heading down the alps or Italy etc we always stay at the Ibis Styles Saint-Quentin

Its newish, super clean, breakfast is ace and there is really secure parking

I've stopped off at the Camping Municipal in Gace, just North East of Le Mans. Cheap and quiet with easy access to the town.

Sorry, that suggestion was for the OP maybe try Camping Les Portes de la Baie de Somme for a site within reach of Calais.
I thought it was open year round but it's not, just April 1st to October 31st.

Other sites I've used the night before heading to the ports are Poix de Picardie Camping 'Bois des pêcheurs' à Poix de Picardie another 1st April to 30th September season site though, or Camping Jeugstadion in Ypres Camper pitches - Urban Gardens Ypres which is all year.
There are free spots for campers by the river in Ypres along Leopold III Laan but these have no facilities. Handy for the Menin gate though. Google Maps
Another one I've used is in Blangy sur Bresle, Camping Aux Cygnes d'Opale - au coeur de la Vallée de la Bresle

If the ferry is at 6 then you need to be at the terminal between 4 and 5. We normally find a little village aire about 30 minutes away using search for sites and stay there for a few hours kip. No recommendation for Calais as we normally do Dieppe. But I would stay well away from the calais port area as the countryside around there is erm ,,,, shall we say not very French when we came through in October.

Yeah, but there are lots of campsites!!!

Thanks folks! Lots of great suggestions; some for this trip and others for the future. Definitely will be overnighting somewhere slightly away from Calais itself as I agree with @Bigsidavies , it can be a bit of a jungle there!
