Oil change service-How much should I be paying?

I've just been quoted £300 for the oil change service by VW, does that seem right? Just the oil, nothing else. WTF? How much is oil? and how much do VW charge for labour? as they've said I can wait and be in an out in an hour!

Yup, i was quoted £295 a few weeks back for an 'oil change service'....apparently they wont just do the oil and filter....so all the other 'checks' will be done too...and the 'free' video inspection sh**e too!!

Oil and filter using VW parts just cost me £145 at really good local non VW garage. Last inspection I had from Retro Resus in April 2023 was £75 as part of other work carried out. £295 doesn't sound really bad

The last one I had at my local Indy was about £150. My interim oil and filter change that I do myself costs about £80 to do.

I've signed up for a plan. It will see me to the end of my warranty and then I'll start the search for a decent independent. My first service two years ago was literally half the price. Rip off.

Just booked mine in at the local Indy end of August (first date they can fit a full day in) for a full service, investigate/fix oil round drive shaft, sort leaking crank pulley oil seal and do a (not needed) cam belt and water pump replacement and investigate intermittent coil light/replace oil pressure switches as necessary.
Not sure what it will cost, but it will be a damn site cheaper than VW.

Just had a main service at 55k miles.. price of the oil alone was £186.85  I rang them up as i presumed (wrongly) this must be a mistake. I asked why their oil is so expensive? Their response "its not the dealers its the bosses above who make the call on price " This 5w30 Long life oil is £25.25 per litre 😲 and i needed 7.4ltrs. This was a main dealer but like others i will now move to an independent.

ECP

3-30w FS £48.89 for 5L

so just under £100 for 10L

so if you buy 10L and use 7.5L it will cost you - about £74

Jesus. I got 4 litres of Castrol Edge from the Castrol eBay shop recently.
It’s currently £31.49 including delivery. 2 bottles and an oil filter is £80. And VW won’t be paying our retail price getting 200litre drums. And they use a cheaper oil brand anyway.
And they wonder why no sane person uses them once their warranty expires.

I found a place online doing 507 spec oil in 20L drums for less than £55 delivered in a sale. Thats enough, just (I also have some Volvo oil that meets 507 spec if I need a smidge more), for three services.

I dont really want to be doing it myself at my age but VW dealerships make Volvo dealers seem like a charity in comparison and its an easy enough job on a 'sporter, so sod it. Money talks, Sasquatch walks.

Before the discount code, normally 10% if you ask.
