Bear with, long story

So upon getting my new van and being so pleased we had a small issue on the way home. The weather was getting cool so we turned up the heat, but there was none. By this time we had covered around 100mls from the dealer and turning back was not an option. The dealers own techs had carried out a cambelt & waterpump change, and in the rush to get it ready, they thought they had not properly bled it. But they thought I should get home and in the morning open the coolant cap and hopefully it will drop and remove the airlock. I did and it didnt.

So nextday I was going to use an independent I had used in the past for all of my VAG repairs & upgrades. I was hoping to just chuck the van at them and hopefully they would look at it when they could. But they were too busy even for me to just drop it off and leave it. Ok so what do we do now then. I spotted a less than glossy website for a firm who were fairly local who seemed to specialise in Audi TT. But the web said they service & repair all VAG models. So I gave them a call and a cheery enthusiastic sounding guy called Andy answered, and really seemed to know what he was talking about. He invited me down for him to look at it.

Shortly after and im in the wilds between my home an 'inteet' me duck land. I pull into this small drive. There is an old black and white cottage to one side and a bunch of old sheds on the other. A slim weathered looking dude with a worn baseball cap perched at a jaunty angle was slumped on a chair. And another guy staring intently at what I guess was his phone. In the field beyond were ponies. I swear I heard banjos FFS. And then I noticed his yard was full of TT's.

The guy with the phone then stirred and said ah your the guy phoned earlier, hi im Andy. Again in a very cheery & friendly manner. Immediately the bonnet was thrown up and a laptop appeared and was plugged in. Sorry for being so keen he said, Im just very curious to find out whats going on. Lovely van, fantastic colour by the way he says. I do work on a few of these he adds. Me, im liking this guy more and more.

He then speaks with my dealer and gets the go ahead to begin the diagnosis. I leave it with him and less than an hour later Andy calls me to say he spotted a small white broken lever, this being the reason the cabin temp control does nothing. He spotted the broken lever and flicked it, and immediately the fan began blowing heat. He then advised he would call my dealer and hopefully get the go ahead to make the repairs.

So back to today my new found tech got stuck in and had the job finished by lunch. He gave it a good run to make sure nothing was knocking, creaking or so on. Although he hadnt yet received payment from my dealer he insisted I came to collect it. On arrival he gave me the offending parts stating how he had to remove a lot of the dash to get to it. Im so glad I didnt get to see that. There is something so worrying about that sort of thing as opposed to mechanicals. Anyway its blowing nice and hot again now. And so I have no hesitation in recommending TT Spares | Mechanics Crewe | Audi & VW Specialists Crewe | Vehicle Repairs

Just dont make them too busy :)

Thanks for reading.

The part that failed is a known weak design. The is a Forum member who makes and sells a much stronger version which will eliminate future failures.
Too late for you now but have a Search in case it fails again.

Thanks all and apologies for posting in the wrong place initially.
