New campervanner

Exciting times, I'm just in the process of converting mine. Nice roof the SCA, streets ahead of some of the cheaper options (but not all); the nice thing is that fairing at the front, it looks very tidy. Are you going to do the conversion yourself like me or be posh and get someone who knows what their doing to do it?

Hi davenjo,

Hi and welcome. It would be great to see some photos as your conversion progresses.
Yes, I'll definitely be taking lots of pics and will post as new bits n bobs slowly get done. Might take a while, it's an expensive business , but seems to be booming.

Plan is to get it converted in stages by a company. I'd be far too scared cutting big holes in my gorgeous van, I'll leave it to the professionals.
How far along with your conversion are you?

I know, I was very worried about cutting the first window, after that it was OK. I recently had to give up working to look after my mother so if I could have afforded it I would have had the windows and lining done professionally but as it turned out it was easy enough (thankfully!).

So far I have taken out the bullkead and the brackets, fitted windows and lined the walls, insulated and fitted the floor, fitted the R&R bed, done the leisure electrics, and almost finished building the furniture which I hope to get fitted this weekend along with the cooker/sink and fridge. All I have left to do then is to get the table sorted and I can apply to get the van changed to a motorhome on the V5. As yet I cant afford to have the poptop fitted so that will have to wait, I think I'm going to lower the van a little too, how much I'm not sure, not too low as it will be driven across fields but as low as I dare to make it easier to get into at our advancing ages!

@T6campervanner Welcome to the Forum :). As you can see @Colinlp is a fount of knowledge on the DIY conversion  and if you find his thread there is much how-to-do-it information there and I'm sure if you ask there are plenty of lovely peeps here who will offer advice and guidance. @Colinlp's conversion project is a masterclass though and he may be up for contact by PM.

Oh wow, you've done lots yourself, that's fantastic. If I had a clue what I was doing I'd have probably went for it, but you lost me at "bulkhead and brackets" lol, so I'm leaving to the pros. Great satisfaction doing it yourself, well done, hopefully give you years of enjoyment.

Fixed that for you! Actually, point taken, I'll start one, I have taken pictures along the way

@Colinlp have you considered sidesteps as an alternative to lowering as you mention crossing fields?
No I hadn't, we have one on our bay that my wife uses, I'll have a look into them, thanks.

The bulkhead is the metal wall between the cab and the cargo area in a van, with luck you wont have one to remove as it is a pain in the proverbial!.

Yes hopefully as long as our health holds out I intend keeping it for another 10 years or so
