New Alpine speakers distorting mid volume 🙁

Good morning all.
Pulled the trigger on an Alpine, plug & play speaker kit for my T6 as the original VW speaker on the passenger side was shot & distorting.
After removing the old speaker & noticing a massive split around it, I thought after fitting the replacements that it would solve the problem.
Unfortunately now on mid to high volume theirs distortion on the new speaker, and the tweeter on the passenger side, where originally it was just the bass speaker.

I’ve still got the original VW head unit so no change in the wiring.
I’m at a loss on what could be causing the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Could it be the old head unit playing up?
Or maybe something else!

Could be the head unit and you could temporarily butcher the loom to swap the left and right channels over to see if the distortion swaps sides.
Not sure if the speakers have a crossover network to split the tweet and midrange but if there is then that may have failed, it's really eliminate as much as you can before swapping out the factory head unit just incase a new unit is trying to play through a still existing fault.

Don't know ... but having my speakers done by @Dav-Tec next week, talking to Chris he suggested I turn speed dependent volume control off. That in itself has made a big difference to my sound, can't wait for my new speakers.

'24 plate 6.1, Composition Media (Edit: Colour, not Media) standard front speakers for now.

Don't know ... but having my speakers done by @Dav-Tec next week, talking to Chris he suggested I turn speed dependent volume control off. That in itself has made a big difference to my sound, can't wait for my new speakers.

'24 plate 6.1, Composition Media, standard front speakers for now.

Had the Gladens fitted by @Dav-Tec with the sound deadening package for the doors. Sounds great.

That's good to hear! Did you have an amp fitted as well?

No. Straight out the headunit. But I've since had the Discover Pro upgrade too.

Ah, that's my concern, I have the basic composition colour (?) jobbie ...

That's what I had and it was fine with no amp. I upgraded because I wanted to. Not because of the sound

Possibly messed up the polarity?

I agree checking the polarity is worth a go as you do need to insert the correct wires into the correct connector slot. I must admit when I did mine I checked several times before pushing them home to click in. I fitted the alpine halo 9 at the same time so can’t comment on their performance with the original head unit but huge improvement over the originals.

Reversed polarity is highly unlikely to cause distortion. its more likely a bad or loose connection that's vibrating under higher output or the headunit is now coping.

Interesting. How do you turn that off? I can't find an On/Off tick box or something. Or is it just a matter of moving the slider all the way to the - side?

Yes just the slider on mine, no tick box (I think, I'd have to go look again to be sure).
