Nearside Driveshaft change

HI All.

I recently replaced my offside drive shaft on my 2019 cxha dsg van 91k on the clock......no issues there even for a novice like myself. It had a new engine at 52k miles. I had a wobble under the van at 40-50 mph that disappeared when not accelerating and anywhere before and after that mph and thought this would cure it. It hasn't, I'm now thinking I should probably change the nearside driveshaft as well so I know both components are good. Firstly is it the same process? I know the nearside is shorter having looked online but the drivers side one also attached via two bolts and not just the spline and wheel nut. I see that the nearside one doesn't have that. Is that the only differences before I start to order parts..... Is the ball joint the same as the drivers side?

If this doesn't sort the issue what is my next port of call??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nearside is flanged, undo the 6 splined bolts. Still have to split the bottom ball joint to get the drive shaft out.

Have you had your wheels balanced? Swap the front with the back first and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks PhillH

Yeah had the wheels balanced first and checked tracking and was all fine. Is this a dry socket as well....should I expect to see an oil or be bone dry like the drivers side? I'm going to replace the ball joint at the same time I'm doing. It made sense as all off anyway.

So if this doesn't work could it be the bushes?....problem is I'm guessing and not sure what to look for. So far I've researched bushes, wheel bearings and gearbox mounts but am really unsure.

Again thanks for any help.

Someone will correct or confirm but I am sure the drivers side should have oil coming out, unless you jacked it high enough so no oil came out. The passenger side is a flange.

Saying that, I’m not sure if there is a seal on the drivers side which would mean it is dry. Have you checked the gear box oil level?

I did jack it high enough to keep the oil from coming out then realised it was a dry socket.....it's a dsg box and having read a few comments think it is dry and prone to wear becasue of it. Like I say I am very new to doing any of my own van stuff but have been learning.....amazing what YouTube can show you these days.

quick question....I had the Carr up and wheel off and drive shaft out of the wheel but couldn't get the drive shaft off.....it's not bolted at all. do I just need to prise it off with a pry bar or is there something else I need to do to remove it from the gearbox?

Ahh ok so it looks like the DSG box is not flanged and both sides are on splines. In this case then you will have to pry it out.

Just to update this...I used a pry bar and the drive shaft levered out easily. Then Lithium greased the new drive shaft and fitted. Was really straight forwards in the end, I also replaced the ball joint whilst it was off, had bought a ball joint splitter but found the hammer on the wish bone a better technique to separate the two.
