My van is a write off...........apparently!

I once had problems with my phone contract.
Had a nightmare trying to change contracts because some plonker spelt my name Gorden
Mistakes like this are only going to get worse as the standard of living drops.
People are so close to earning nothing more than just enough to cover their bills. No holidays nights out etc.
It is little wonder they don’t give a shit at work these days.

These departmental mistakes are now being touted as one of the reasons the Government wants open access to view everybody’s bank account - so they can check the DWP hasn’t overpaid anyone. Why that means they need access to view those that aren’t claiming anything is beyond me.
And yet I was asked to explain why I thought we were losing control of our lives.
Perfect example

I wonder if this may actually be one of the byproducts of AI and automation. Increasingly a lot of these repetitive tasks have been getting done by automation products like UIPath and blue prism (I know as I worked at blue prism until recently!). Where it’s not blocked, people use chatgpt or similar to speed up their work without even thinking. The examples like a 0 instead of an O could be a case of automation or AI using optical character recognition on a handwritten form and misreading it. Same could happen with a VIN number at source insurance company, who also use huge amounts of automation now to stay competitive.
These things should usually have a human failsafe built in for low confidence AI, but these days some depts are so cash strapped that stripping out cost means they don’t have the staff to even do checks, or if someone just blindly uses ChatGPT to do their work for them, they might not even bother.

Anyway, I guess it doesn’t matter how it happened, just hope you get it fixed!

Right guys..........I now know which insurance company is responsible!! I've had a letter from DVLA telling me who it is and that I must now take it up with them.........and boy, am I going to take it up with them. I'm going for lost earnings and my hourly rate for the time I've spent on this! If they don't sort this pronto, I'm going to expose this company.
Thanks for all the input and I'll keep you posted.👍

I've got a glass of Babycham and a big tub of popcorn and I'm planning to enjoy every squeal as you give it to them dry.

I'm giving this some thought now guys. I don't want to ring these idiots and just rant. I'm wondering whether to seek the advice of the legal department of my own insurer and use my legal cover. The downside to this, perversely, is that it may well be considered a claim so when I come to renew my policy, we know what will happen!! Any thoughts would be welcome. As an aside, it's interesting that my van doesn't appear on the DVLA website........yet they took my RFL!!!
Cheers guys!!

I would be tempted to speak to a socialist motoring solicitor. Get their advice.
Especially as costs would be claimable.

Right guys........the latest!

My own insurance company won't help because it's got nothing to do with them......I sort of get that. Just spoke to the insurance company involved. Took me 40 minutes to get it through to them what they've done! Get this.....they wouldn't talk to me directly about the case because I'm not insured with them and it's data protection! Between gritted teeth, I pointed out that they have disseminated MY data........INCORRECTLY!!!! Not once did they apologise or show the slightest empathy for the problems they've caused me. When I pointed this out, she gave me an unsincere apology........and as the old saying goes......."there's only one thing worse than no apology........and that's half an apology"! I've sent an email with the relevant facts, requesting immediate acknowledgement, immediate action and the contact details of the department which will be handling my claim for lost earnings!!
The fight is on!!!

If you’re with the RAC or AA they include legal cover, might be worth speaking with them if you are

Sound like a small claims court case to me.
Aye, I'd write to the giving them a reasonable time to respond, say 14 days.

Then I'd small claims court their asses. You can bet theyll clamour to sort it once then papers are served.

I always find turning up in person and being very loud at reception illicits a good response......

Social media interaction via google reviews and trustpilot also gets a good reaction

Okay gents......quick update. My van is now back on DVLA website!! However, the guilty insurance company now want me to prove that I did indeed lose 3 days work.....they want to see invoices. I understand they want some sort of evidence.......I could be a scammer......but I'm not!! Now call me old fashioned but I invoice my customers AFTER I have done the work.......not before! How the f*ck am I supposed to evidence lost work??? I've sent a photo of my business bank account card so that they can at least see I am a sole trader. Lost for words at these idiots!

Yeah, difficult to provide evidence of something that didn't happen... and I'm sure they're fully aware of that. 😒
