Load Lights Wiring To Leisure Battery

Hi guys, sorry if this has been covered previously, have searched but not found anything directly relating to my query, or the way I want to do it.

I'm converting my T6 to a camper, and want to keep the existing load lights, but run them from the leisure battery instead of the starter battery. (NB: 1 Leisure battery is grounded to vehicle . 2 I don't want to run cable from leisure battery to vehicle fuse box)

I'm intending on doing this as follows, rewiring direct to the light fitting

Remove existing Red and black wire +12v Live feed from light fitting completely, and terminate (will be unused forever)

Connect a new fused +ve to the light fitting from the leisure battery

Remove existing Solid brown , permanent negative from light

Connect new permanent negative from leisure battery to light.

LEAVE existing switched -ve connected to light fitting.

I'm hoping by doing this the light functions ( door open on / permanent on ) will still function as before, only change being power coming from leisure battery.

Also that the timed off will no longer happen, as +ve feed now taken from leisure battery.

Can anyone confirm that this will work without problems?

Last question; is it even worth it - would I be better off just changing the bulbs to LEDs and running from starter battery and leaving wiring as is - presume LEDs would take forever to flatten the battery as draw would be so minimal

Cheers
Ian

That should work ok, you don't need to remove the permanent -ve you can use that. I would definitely change the bulbs to LED whether you're running them from the leisure or starter battery.

Thanks Deaky ! Sorry, to clarify, the only reason I want to replace the permanent -ve too is that I am installing a Victron BMV-700 battery monitor, so need all my -ve cables to come off it's shunt to measure amp draw. ( although I can live with the monitor not measuring use whilst the lights are on on the door switched -ve )
