Leisure battery seems to be dead on just purchased used T6.1 Beach

Hello,

I have just picked up my T6.1 Beach from the dealership yesterday (yay!). I bought a used vehicle with 96k km mileage. When I first saw the car, I noticed that the camping display was not working. I signed the contract anyway, because they claimed that it was working before and they will fix it before me collecting the van. After almost a month of waiting, I collected a van yesterday and they forgot/didn't bother to look into the issue with the display. Now I have an appointment in another two weeks for them to inspect it. Given that they are not specialising on camper vans I assume they might not have competence to fix it.

Inspecting the vehicle at home, I have noticed that it is not just display, but none of the lights in the back area of the van that supposed to run from the leisure battery are non-operable. It doesn't seem like it's charging while engine is running (at least camping display is not firing up).

I know that the van was in storage for at least last 3 months, and now I am assuming that the battery might be just discharged or dead completely. If it is already dead, the dealership will have to replace the battery for me for free.

I don't have much experience in car electrics. What should be my next course of actions now? I am thinking to buy a multimeter and check the voltage of the battery. But what's next? Should I get an appointment with official VW dealership to inspect it? Should I buy charging kit, take it out and try charging at home?

I guess the first thing to do is to work out if the leisure battery is any good.

Recommend one of these to install permanently to monitor longer term:

Then could there be a fuse blown or isolator switch somewhere in the setup?

Hmmmm - problem here is as soon as you start fiddling/messing you might get the blame for it not working. I'd be kicking up a bit of a stink with the place you bought this from (your post seems to suggest that it's not a VW dealership) on the basis that your van is unusable and that 2 weeks waiting time is unacceptable.

This^^^^^^ they sound like a dodgy outfit to start with. Don’t give them any excuse to wriggle out of it. I’d be exercising my consumer rights & taking the van back within 14 days. If you wait for the appointment, you will be outside of your return window. Get moving.

14 days is the Distance Selling, there is a bit longer in this case I believe but I would second the advice to make a fuss and putting in writing that it is faulty and you'll be rejecting the vehicle and expecting your money back.

Citizens Advice Bureau do a summary tool here, just answer the questions for your situation

The OP is in Germany afaik you can return goods within 14 days under EU law without justification, regardless of whether they were distance sold or in person.
