Leaking Tailgate Struts

While away in france on holiday, we had the tailgate raised quite a lot and I've noticed weeping from the strut, so question is, is this a common fault or anything to do with it being a raised for a length of time or the intense heat and temperature we had or nothing to worry about because it doesn't seem any worse now we are home 20180709_085635.jpg 20180709_085640.jpg 20180709_085645.jpg

I haven’t had that, but if they’re standard strength I’ve got a pair in the garage you can have gratis if you need them?

I have the exact same issue with my nearside tailgate strut.
Was going to nip down to TPS or GSF and give the part number and get a replacement. Two second job to swap.

Mine don't leak yet, but in this heat when we leave the tailgate open for a prolonged time, they are very stiff to close, but then totally normal when they cool down.

Mines near side also @DaveyB, it still works and once i clean the van tomorrow i will monitor it, the vans going for a service soon so i will collar the dealer and see what fairy tale he tells me

@andys thanks for the kind offer i will see what happens with the dealer and may be in touch (this forum is so helpful)

That’s normal. Boyles law. The pressure of a given mass of gas is inversely proportional to its volume at a given temperature. Therefore when temperature increases and the volume remains constant, the pressure increases.
That’s why the Hilo was such a PITA to pull down on warm days, and needed a bit of gas draining out..

It also why struts go bang really nicely when the vehicle is on fire.

Every days a school day in here. (now if I can only find a use for your 'nats pube' in a sentence)

mine are the same, really hard to pull down when hot and fine when cool, and i was wondering if the seal was damaged with the pressure when trying to close the tailgate

Warranty job surely ?

Warranty job surely ?
By the time i’ve taken a day off work, driven to the nearest stealer’s and back, had the hassle of arguing the toss that having a Hilo hasn’t invalidated the warranty associated with a tailgate gas strut, had them damage my van in one way shape or form; it’s just not worth the hassle for the cost of a strut. Unless you’re going to tell me they are ridiculous money?

I won the Euro Millions on Tuesday night, will the £2.60 get me a strut?
