Leaking Kombi side window – new seals?

Hi all. After some new seals for my side sliding windows as both are leaking. Anyone know of a good alternative as I can not for the life of me find anything which is similar to the original rubber seal. Thanks!

Even brand new seals leak if you're unlucky.
When we had our van being examined for leaking slider windows at the dealers they loaned us a brand new Kombi. That night it was raining, so out of curiosity I went out and had a look. Both windows were leaking!
The dealer eventually replaced our window which has been leak free for a number of years.
However, when the warranty ran out the other side started to leak. After reading all posts on the forum and on Google I found a fix myself and it has worked for me.
Very carefully, remove the sliding window and place it somewhere safe. Thoroughly clean all seals with soapy water. Ensure all grit etc. is removed. Do this for the removed window as well. Using a very thin piece of plastic, e.g., a cable tie or similar clear the debris out of the 2 drainage slots. Don't use anything metallic as it could scratch the bodywork below. Using a water filled syringe with a tube fitted on the end purge the circular drain holes until they are clear.
Then, carefully replace the sliding window.
If you park the van nose down any water ingress will allow the drain holes to do their job. Nose up defies physics as water doesn't travel uphill.
It also helps if you never open the sliders!!!!
I hope this helps.

This is amazingly helpful thank you. I’ve followed your steps this arvo and they were well and truly gunged up - no wonder they were leaking. I’ve kept the old seals in and ordered some silicone grease and some foam cord to insert in the original seals to hopefully create a tighter seal - someone else had done this on here and seems to do the trick too! Nightmare windows, was half tempted to seal them up completely!

Glad it helped. I would avoid putting silicone grease in as it will just block the drain holes quicker and they may be more difficult to unblock.
If I were specifying another van I would just have glass without sliders:)

I think @Ruby16 has hit the nail on the head! It’s unlikely you will ever get a perfect seal so the drains are the important bit and they do appear to be very prone to blocking.

on my 4 th set of windows and still leaking,1 more year before warranty runs out so will probably be replaced again,vw wont let me put aftermarket ones in,once warrenty is up im getting non oem ones that hopefully wont leak
