Leak detection dyes... any good?

Anybody rate those leak detection kits that are kicking about? Had any success? I've not actually used one before but they seem pretty handy, if of course they actually work.

on a more serious note i've used some in a coolant system on my son evo8 to find a coolant leak, yes they work with the correct torch but the dye gets every where and i mean everywhere for a long time, so on a less serious note if you do use this if you are waving it about everywhere careful whose about when you have your torch on or there some awkward conversions to be had especial if you have seen CSI on telly and how bodily fluids light up under this sort of light and it all over your face

Pressure test of coolant circuit makes less mess, but requires the necessary caps, adaptors pump and gauge.
