It's Arrived.....

So our new van has arrived at the dealers and we are collecting next week, now for the fun to begin. In the process of sorting racking solutions so any suggestions of companies in or near Brighton would be greatly received.

Have reminded the dealer not to let the "valeters!!" anywhere near it. A reflection of their work the dealer said he wouldn't let them anywhere near his vehicle....

What have you used on your first wash for ongoing protection, currently using meguiars

Dash Cam, Van Shades, Wind deflectors, Carista and additional security to follow then whether to change the wheels.

Let the fun commence

Happy van week, make sure to smother this thread with photos of it once it's finally on your drive.

Being in the same camp as you and not letting the dealer touch mine when it was new, they do tend to come pretty dusty. You don't say what colour you've ordered, but if it's a dark colour, you might find it needs a little fettling before you apply any protection, obviously depending on how permanent a protection you want to add. Mine needed a fair bit of machine polishing to remove transportation marks, and general issues from the paint. The bonnet was the worse, because they use an elasticated material to protect it during transport, but this actually marks the paint. Luckily I use a machine polisher every day and have for 12 years with my own work, so I didn't have any problems, but if you haven't got experience and it is a dark colour, I'd strongly advise you use someone in your area that knows what they are doing. Machine polishing is not as easy as some would have you think, and holograms are easy to get on the surfaces, a nightmare to remove, and will drive you nuts once the sun comes out.

As for sealing the paintwork, I've tested most products through my business, but I don't work with painted surfaces, so I cannot profess to be the fountain of all knowledge with this, but I've had amazing results from the new improved Autoglym HD wax as a finishing product on my own Black T6, which is possibly the hardest colour to maintain. (Silver and Grey being easiest)

Some rave about ceramic products, I personally didn't find they stood up to other similar protections, but it's a personal choice.

Oh and bare in mind that any protection you add or pay to have added, is only as good as the aftercare. If you spend daft money on a 'magic' coating, then take your van to a local carwash gang, or even let the dealer wash it during a service, then you might find you've wasted your money. I'm an advocate of using businesses that know exactly what they are doing, but shop around. There's a big flash, glass fronted, leather sofa, Nespresso serving business near me that will happily take up to £1000 from you to apply a ceramic coating to your T6, and they are not short of mugs with expensive cars lining up to pay it. There's also some very experienced mobile detailers that will do exactly the same job for a fraction of the price, and give you better, more realistic aftercare advice.

Thanks Tourershine, really helpful. Induim Grey is our colour, had been considering spending out for ceramic but kinda of wanted to do it myself as I enjoy the whole process, I will consider giving the Autoglym product a try, I have also been looking at Dodo Juice products. I do love a shiny new cleaning product....

yeah what Roadrunner said;)

Welcome Brightonian,

..for the cost of getting someone to detail and protect, you could kit yourself out for years to come with toys to keep it shiny,

but your OCD levels may start to climb rapidly. :geek:

I'm lucky enough to have had most products sent to me for free, so had the luxury of testing a lot of different types of products, but all that means is you end up with loads of bottles in your garage, and your choice gets narrowed down to several favorates. Hence the HD wax at the moment.

Looking forward to some pictures:)

You are lucky to have Bognor Motors close to you, they are superb:thumbsup:

I know a few people that have bought it:D

No pics currently, still with dealer (we got a sneak preview yesterday but I forgot to take a picture!!) it's then off to be racked and then I am thinking Advanced in car technology for cameras and any other toys I can't resist. Then blinds, mats, etc etc. It may even go on the road this year..........

Happy new van, :)

Quick question, how do I change my location from Bognor to Brighton??
Click on your user name on the top bar. Select “personal details” from the drop down menu, scroll down till you see the “location” bit - erase Bognor, type in Brighton.

Welcome to T6 world

I have spent a shed load of time researching racking (lifestyle purposes: mountain biking). Obviously depends what your requirements are compared to mine and how you've 'fitted out' the load space in your van already as to what will and what won't fit / look nice.

I've gone with Bott Industries for various reasons but let me know where you're at with your plans and I may be able to help
