Not sure which is the best section to post this so mods please move as required.

Been away the weekend and when putting my HiLo roof down the front left side securing bolt would not screw in. Was finding bits of insulation tape coming off the nylon thread so it looks like the last owner had the issue and just wrapped tape around the thread. How easy is it to change out the nylon threaded bolt? Or would it be the actual roof that's damaged? Going to have a good look this afternoon but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone has had similar issues? Also what size is the threaded nylon bar and where to buy?

Many thanks,
TR.

Really simple to change. It’s only screwed into the handle/nut. I’d say it’s either M10 or M8 at a guess.

Swap bolts from left to right, should be able to see whether the bolt or the captive nut is stripped and give us an update on here.
Thanks good shout but spotted bits of tape on the right hand side to so expect they have both worn over time. Didn't have time yesterday to have a good butchers but will do this evening.

Well I just messaged HiLo via their web contact us form to ask what size thread the nylon rod was and got a phone call back with-in a few minutes from HiLo. Went through the issue and confirmed the size of M10. They do sell replacements for £15 I think he said. Will buy some rod and make my own though with a spare front and rear (rear is longer). But fair play to them for the super quick reply considering the stick they've been getting of late. Top marks.

They use a nylon rod for a reason, so if you cross thread it you only need to replace the rod and not the captive nut.

I'd pay for the nylon rod if I was in your situation.

My HiLo only has nylon rods at the rear, the fronts are different on the latest versions I believe.

So got the bolt out and though difficult to see in the photo the end of the thread is very damaged. Also no way to remove the bar from the screw knob. Can find replacement knobs for a few quid but all from China so going to be 4 weeks before I see them. Can get 500mm length of bar for £8 from the UK though. Now not sure if I should just buy them ready made from HiLo??

Just an update on this. Managed to drill out the old nylon rod from the knob without damaging the threads. Ordered some new 10mm 1.5 rod and cut to size. Glued in with resin and replaced. Did both fronts, the rod un-screwed out the front drivers side so nice and easy. Ordered 1m of rod so going to order some knobs and make up a spare set. Did check the rears and the threads look fine on those. Might be worth you all checking for thread damaged next time you have the roof up.

I had similar situation last week where I couldn't screw the nylon bolts into the Hi-Lo roof. Eventually I realised it was due to the roof canvas not pulled back far enough. Luckily I didn't damage the canvas.

Hello. I think we are having the same issue, and I believe hilo have now gone into administration. Does anyone know of anywhere we could get these nylon screws? I can see you can get the bits to make them separately online, but I'm not particularly handy....
