Interior Rust

I have this on the underside of my driver door on the inside, how is this possible on a 4 year old vehicle?! And where they stamp some serial number into the metal, of cause that's rusted as well!

Is this covered under the VW corrosion warranty? Or is it time to get the Dremel out...

(Ignore the cut out for the puddle light!)

Could it be bits of grot on the door seal? There are specs along the line of the seal, so I could imagine wearing through the paint and creating a pinhole for rust to start.

If so I would say that is good news because it’s easy to fix, rather than rusting through from the inside.

Thats rusted from outside in, so will be a chip or a bit of grit caught on the door weatherstrip damaging the paint.

VW warranty is anti-perforation only after year 3, so because you have no hole you have no claim. Even if you let it get that far its not rusting from inside, so still wouldnt be a valid claim im afraid.

Good news is you've caught it early and its easy and relatively inexpensive to fix. Id be inclined to take it back to bare metal, smooth it, prime and blow over it myself.

Yeah it's just bubbling under the paint - crazy it's got like this after 4 years on an interior panel though!
