Interior Rust

While adding some insulation to my van I discovered some rust on the interior metalwork. It's located behind the rear wheel arch and I for sure cannot access from the inside of the van. Attached is a photo on the right of the image is the rear wheel arch.

Whats the best way to treat this? Any ideas if it would be covered by the VW Corrosion warranty?

Spray it with some Lanoguard/Waxoyl or similar?

You want a permanent treatment as once paneled in you'll have no access, so a good spray of Bilt Hamber dynax.

It won't be a warranty job. The warranty is a 3 year cosmetic warranty only and it's difficult to argue something that can't be seen without performing yoga that nefer actually had a final cosmetic paint finish anyway is cosmetic. After that its a 12 year anti-perforation, or 'through-corrosion' warranty.

I wouldn't sweat it. Just reach for the Dynax and then forget you ever saw it.

As @DXX says above I’d agree with water Ingres via the slam vent. They are situated under the rear quarter. There was a thread a few months ago I read, with a member who replaced his because vent outer seal had failed and letting water spray from the wheel. It contains part numbers too (I think from recollection). Anyhow, done a very quick search for you (30 second scan) but can’t find it immediately. A steady trawl will reveal it I’m sure. He replaced and back up rubber seal with some proprietary sealant ( again from recollection). Pretty sure it’s a rear bumper off job to do it, but you could view from underneath with a mirror or such like. As stated above though Spray Rust Treatment will cure, as others have advised, but obviously won’t stop any serious water ingress if the vents are on the way out/degraded if the flap is jammed open.
FWIW I fitted large ‘ Dakar Rally’ style mud flaps on the rear from new (I’ll post a photo tomorrow in the light) so don’t suffer any direct water spray up under the lower rear quarter of the bumper. (Appreciate though this ‘look’ doesn’t suit everyone’s van.
HTH👍

I fitted these.

I used some of the pre-existing holes for the arch liner fixings and drilled another hole or two where required and used some ‘fir tree’ style trim fixings. Can be had from Halfords etc. (The ones that come with it are a bit pants.). I found these mud flaps great (also recommended by others) as you can trim if required, position exactly where you need depending on your requirements, aesthetics, wheel size and offset.

HTH.
