Insurance Query

Hi,

We have just purchased a T6 Highline for conversion into a Camper - all very exciting.

Just after a little advice re insurance as getting conflicting info.

Obviously it's currently a van, conversion is due to start end Sept - I know there are specialist Campervan insurance companies but are there any that will insure initially as a van then subsequently a Camper once converted.

I've seen reference to a 'Coversion' insurance policy but not sure who offers this?

Recommendations of insurers etc would be really welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Brentacre for me - so painless to deal with.
My van started life as a Highline Kombi and is having work carried out in stages. Brentacre will adjust your policy (with no admin charges) as you go based on the value of the work you are having carried out.
I have found them to be a breath of fresh air, so to speak!

Thanks both. FYI - I got quotes from Brentacre & Adrianflux - preference was Brentacre - however their price was a fair bit more, plus a high excess so ended up with Adrianflux.

Thanks again.

I have had an excellent quote from www.hertsinsurance.com for exactly the same situation you are describing.

What sort of prices are you getting on these, had 2 quotes £600 / 700 for a 66 plate t32 150 lwb highline

It’s never easy to comment on insurance quotes because everyone’s circumstances, experience, and driving history is very different. All I can say is that I pay less than half that on a brand new Kombi with the same spec, but you don’t know my history either!

Yeh they were the first ones I tried, conversion policy
Late 40s, full Ncd protected, no claims convictions etc, additional driver with similar record, living up north , SDCP
£640

A Plan here too. No increase for windows.....they even appropriately raised the value of the vehicle for which they charged me nothing! No increase for 18" Sportline alloys (so I can use the standard 17" Devonports as winter wheels) but when I enquired about one of those roof spoilers in an attempt to keep the rear windows clear they wanted a 5% increase. Needless to say I don't have a spoiler fitted!

If you have had your van converted into a camper check the level of cover with your insurer carefully. A number of insurers I had quotes from, including some of those mentioned here, said that they covered the conversion itself but not the cost of the labour involved in carrying it out! In other words not the full value. This may not be an issue for those of you who did the conversion yourself, but if you have paid a converter for the whole job, you may find that you are under insured. The company I found to be the most professional when it comes to insuring a camper conversion insurance is Safeguard.

A Plan worked it out on the cost of the van plus the cost of what I'm spending on the conversion, no requirement to advise of modifications just to take photos and keep receipts, I had to detail what I intended modifying ie full interior conversion, alloys , exterior styling etc

Safeguard were good for me when I went from PV to conversion.
However, this year I was adding both sons to policy, safeguard weren't helpful.
Ended up with the CAMC recommended insurer - obviously you need to be a member.

Fluxdirect for me was £250 for the first year during conversion now £405 as a camper with an agreed value of 40k

Thank you Forum VERY MUCH INDEED for recommending the above insurance companies. We have experienced obstacles in trying to insure our very newly converted T6 - However Adrian Flux has come up trumps!

Redone my insurance as usual recently.
Another big thumbs up for Adrian Flux.

Had a flyer in the post from Allan this week warning of a significant hike in premiums all done to the rise in tax hmmmmm
Will need to start getting quotes. As a number of you seem to get a deal from Adrian Flux I’ll start there unless anyone has other recommendations?

You need to get 'agreed value cover' if you want to get back what you've paid for camper interior, and mods etc. Otherwise as mentioned they won't pay out anything like what it cost to build.

Have submitted all pics/ paperwork and paid the£15 admin for agreed value etc
It seems to be taking an age to get this confirmation.
Did it take a while in your case?
