Installing a Leisure Battery

G'day All,

I have a T6 multivan Highline which I am installing an aftermarket LB with a projecta DC25A Charger..

Just before I connect it up..

Does the monitoring device fitted to the main battery negative terminal have any implications for connecting the charger and LB to common ground? Should I run a twin cable to the LB and connect everything directly to the main battery in order to bypass it?

Cheers

Stuart

You need to connect the second battery to chassis ground, preferably the same as the earth lead of the main battery. Don't connect directly to the main battery neg terminal as this will stop the correct monitoring of the starter battery.

I'm not familiar with your split charger but it should be good enough to deal with charging and maintaining the secondary on its own.

Looking at the DC25A charger it is a proper DC to DC unit so this in effect isolates your LB from the main battery so shouldnt cause any complications
As its only a 25A unit the cabling doesnt need to be too excessive but as @Loz mentioned it is essential to get a good earth and use a factory fitted earth stud

Hi guys, after owning the t6 for 6 months. I’m financially able to start buying again.
So can we buy a complete kit for leisure battery, wires, inverter switch and sockets etc? Plus I have a stop/start vehicle will this limit my choice and finally what size battery should I go for?

Yes @travelvolts does a complete kit.

I will put a package together for you and message you tomorrow with details.

Could you send me this too travelvolts if you wouldn't mind just having roof fitted next is carpet lining and wiring does your kit come with full instructions.

Thanks for the response guys.. All connected and appears to be running smoothly.

Hi Stu

I've just purchased the same Projecta, installation looks fairly simple, just wondering where you connected into the Ignition wire?
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I'm cautious to do anything that will effect warranty as I'm sure we all are, so trying to find the best location? Possible free fuse point?

Cheers

Also, I did just run my multi meter over most of these fuses with the key in ignition position and I didn't get any results. I hadn't tried method before but noticed it on another forum, is this the correct way?
