I’m a clueless fool

Hello all, new to the Campervan market and have already realised it’s an absolute minefield!

I just found my dream motorhome... Search for yours

why would and why wouldn’t you buy this spec of van and what would really put you off?

Want to take it on fun family trips and biking and surfing getaways

Any help would be great
It is not 4Motion so no good for me! It is black not the best colour for hot sunny days. Is a 150 when more BHP and torque available.

Years ago I was interested in a Pinzgauer 718K exceptionally rare 6 wheel drive machine but have been some available over the years I understand Still love one, long but the 3 sets of swing Portal Axles take care of that. The automatic gear box makes up a major part of the chassis. Great off road performance unbeautifully made. The only thing is the engines are a bit old tech now Euro 4 and Euro 5 VW 6 and the 5 cylinder. have driven a much older petrol version ex military beautifully smooth of road but sounded like a VW air-cooled Beetle. The K denotes Kabin so has 5 Doors. I had not looked at them for years but last night just had a notion and it started off my past lust for them. I even joined a few international forums one in Germany and one in USA and other international off road travelling 4x4 forum the British eventually bought them from Austria the bought the company then the yanks bought it out. In the end I bough a Volvo TGB 6X6 again with portal axles they where old Teck but phenomenal off road, very thirsty just as the oil prices went up. Ah well

I avoid DSG personally, although others adore it.

The mileage is high (for its age) for a leisure vehicle. Not a problem per se, but theres plenty of three year old vans about with a lot less so why would you?

Body kit isnt to everyone's taste and does nothing for the value.

Black looks pleasant but isn't a good colour for a camper.

The spec on the conversion looks nice enough, although I've not checked out the converter.

Towbar may or may not be a bad thing, depending on how it may ormmwy jotmhave been used.

You'd need to check it out in proper depth really.

Have you thought of hiring one to test the water. The SWB is tight on space when the bed is made but will go anywhere a car can. Some people like the extra 40cm the LWB gives albeit parking in ‘normal’ size spaces can be an issue (from what I’ve read).

My 2018 startline 9 seat window van is probably worth 18-20k. £40k would get me a mega conversion!

Nice looking van.
Only thing that would put me off personally would be the price, the colour and the external gas/water points.

Thank you for your response, what puts you off in regard to dsg?

Absolutely solid idea, i think this would be our best first step !

Thanks bud, never really thought how colour could cause problems in heat etc

It's more from a detailing point of view rather than heat that I don't like black.
Looks great when clean but unless you keep on top of it it'll soon be covered in swirls, it's just too high maintenance for me.

All Seasons Leisure van. Contact them for a build spec. I have an All Seasons conversion.

Gas grill - not a microwave as stated in. The advert.

What's up with the solar on gge roof? Sticky tape used to secure it.

2 previous owners in only 3 years? Ask questions.....

Increased servicing cost, increased clutch replacement cost, something else to go wrong (although it must be said theyre fairly reliable.) Not a problem for the average owner, but I'm 60 and my van will probably be my last vehicle so mechanical simplicity in the pursuit of longevity was my priority.

For me I would be questioning the VAT status that’s a lot of extra money unless your in a position to be able to claim it back? the colour as said above only looks good when highly maintained.
Also again as mentioned all the extra admin fees.

Partly, as already said, I don't pay "admin" fees, not ever, but also it's a whole ton of money for what it is.
On the plus side, it's a single turbo.

Admin fee and a broker fee WTF?
No ta, oh and it’s got no heated seats for 3dr Cossie money! I thought we’d gone past this daft stage with vans! Get yourself a belting base van and a decent local small convertor with an eye for detail and quality workmanship.
Then with the change stick behind the bar for the T6 forum drinkers 🍻
All the best with your search pal 👍

Just my tuppence worth on dsg - everyone is different…
I have a golf with a 150 engine and day and the Transporter with a 102 engine and a manual ‘box. Both are 2014 models.
Obviously the van is heavier although the car gets driven hard.
The van has had a new dmf at less than 40k (had the clutch done to as no reason to do one and not the other).
The golf is on the same clutch pack after 117k miles. And the dsg makes it so much more relaxing to drive.
Yes, I’ve had two gearbox services on the car, costing around £600, but in the 10 years of ownership I can cope with the cost as the gearbox is a delight. Worth the money to me.
