Ignition live to remote on/off terminal of a Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30 DC-DC Charger (Non-Isolated). I am doing it right?

So you need to adjust your dcdc settings by small steps down.... I've even been down to 12.2v for the start voltage on a long drive.
Thanks for that - it makes sense of what I'm seeing. The danger of dropping the cut off point that low is that you might forget to set it back up when stopped. 12.2V is below the usual resting voltage of a battery, even at 80%.

I wouldn't mind if I could run the fan on position 2 - I usually do that anyway, but I have to turn mine up to 6 to get the voltage up & can only drop it to 5 before it falls off again. Makes for a noisy drive - not to mention inefficient.

Both my Vans rest voltage is around 12.1v to 12.2v

Based on the BM2 voltage loggers.

Yes you need to keep on tweaking the settings until you get it right for your particular van.

Don't forget with the stop start and the auto alternator you can turn on the fan to blower speed 2 or turn the lights on that will help increase the voltage coming from the engine bay.
Just reading this thread and am in the same position. Would it be true to say then that tweaking the settings should mean there is no need to run a switched live to terminal H on the charger as the issue of engine shutdown will also be dealt with. ?

Yes. It works without an IGN feed..... You just need to fettle the settings a bit. ( To make sure the charger starts and stops when you expect it to)

I think so.

I installed my Orion XS a few weeks ago and took a couple of journeys to work out the optimum settings, having used an AI assistant to help me dial it all in. I used Copilot and told it what charger and battery I was using, uploaded screenshots of the Victron app and the model interpreted the figures and suggested the adjustments. I lowered the output to begin with to make sure my cables and crimps were all in order but now have got it sending the full 50a to my battery with no issues. I ran a 1.5mm cable under the cab mat just in case engine detection didn't work properly but I haven't needed to use it...

Good luck!
