High level brake light

We have a 2020 Transporter 6.1 T32. we've had the van approximately 6 mths and noticed the high level brake light didn't work.
A new LED one has been purchased and fitted but still not working. We noted a broken wire from the rear main wiring loom in the tail gate , 2 wires lead to the high level brake light on the tail gate which we thought would sort the problem out.
Unfortunately when the brake is now pressed the new lamp illuminates for a split second and goes out.
Does anyone have any idea why the high level light does't stay illuminated when braking?
Any help would be appreciated

Yes we plugged the old one back in and tried it and it was the same as the new one . I thought that connecting the 2 loose wires it would sort it . It's getting some sort of power as its initially comes on for a second and goes off every time you brake . There is no issue with the other brake lights. I was wondering if it could be the 2 pin plug that connects to the new lamp?

There was no obvious issues with the plug didn't look rusty as far as I could see although the old lenses had a small crack in it which could have let in some moisture.

Were the two broken wires different colours, so you could reconnect them with the correct polarity?

They were white so tried changing them over same result I got an Auto electrician calling tomorrow so i'll have an update with the result. Hopefully something really simple. Thanks everyone, loving the forum learn so much

Update on this high level brake light issue. Had a VW transporter owner to take a look. He believes there was a break in the wire somewhere from the high level brake light, he worked around it by a new length of cable to the nearside lamp which works a treat . A local garage was useless and ripped me off i have since had my money back off them after sending them a legal letter.
