Hi, New Member, Spent A Years Wages....

And now panicking, just noticed the fridge was loose, pulled it out and there is no panelling or insulation behind it. It is a 12vbdometoc coolmatic. Is this normal? I have built 2 campers myself and always insulated the whole van first!

There is insulation in the panel next to it.

Please put my mind at rest that this was a logical and conscious choice by the van converter......

Perhaps it’s about ensuring the heat dissipates from the heat exchanger and compressor at the back to prevent it overheating???

Do you think a layer of silver bubble wrap will be better than raw van?

Also the leads connecting the leisure battery are incredibly thin compared to what I have used in the past. In the past I used a travelvolts kit but this does have proper fuse box and relay due to the stop start I guess.

The red wire is very thin though!

Who converted your bus?

Welcome to the forum

It wasn't a conversion for me, it was a converter. Looking into it I have ''deduced' that it was insulated, the fridge didn't fit so they cut it out to make the fridge fit. I can see the remnants of glue and insulation on the wall of the van. Will cover in bubble wrap.

I have also researched into the Sargent ec155 power system which has 20a fuses in its diagnostics. Now this is not acceptable in a stop start system, and also will not charge with a fridge running but is a standard system for campers and wired up correctly.

The converter is relatively new, has done a cracking job in parts and in others doesn't suit a wild camper. I will fix it with a 150w solar panel on the roof I think. He has been good so far in helping with the snagging list.

......I will name and shame should his fixes not be up to standard. Bear in mind I do have a heavy case of OCD....

Im just about to start a conversion. Always good to know who’s used who. Im going to ise different ones for sifferent phases i think

I have had a look behind my fridge and I also do not have insulation. I am guessing this is to allow the heat from the condenser to dissipate?
I also have a Sargent electric box to handle the internal electrics but in addition they have installed a Sterling btob charger under the drivers seat which takes care of the split charge issue.
