Hello from a possible new T6 owner!

Thanks, that's a bit of a relief, I think. Lol. I might have to look for a supermarket further away.
Or…. Just look for a tsi, get in, drive , stop, no worries of whether you need to go for extra miles. I’ve got one and it’s great. It suits my usage which is pretty much like yours would be. Best vehicle I’ve had . Does everything, skip run, shopping trip, out with the dog, off with the bike in the back. The ultimate multi purpose vehicle….. and looks cool as !!!

I only checked AT this morning but with a budget of 40k theres 1 Petrol transporter for sale, not a lot of choice, its a shame because this diesel has an amazing spec, I can only think the reason its been for sale for so long is because of the cost vs potential problems with the BiTD engine, warranties cover 5k so wouldnt buy a new engine even if they accepted the claim. Check out this spec. Gorgous colour too, looks mint.

Judging by what you said your usage will be, I’d say the most important thing to consider would be the engine. And not what frilly bits are attached to it. But then again it will all no doubt still work when the engine goes pop and you could sit on the drive playing about with remote led internal lights but just not go anywhere. Tsi’s are rare and it took a while for me to find the ‘one’ but so worth it 👍

Lol, thanks to all the good people here I've already knocked it on the head, I'm so glad I came here BEFORE purchase and not after like I normally do when I buy a car. I'm back looks at X3 comps with lots of frilly bits and pretty bullet proof engines by comparison.

Personally i wouldnt buy a bitdi and many people think the same which is gonna hurt your resale figure regardless of whether it goes pop or not .
Yeah the garage said they can't believe it's been up for sale so long, now I know why thanks to everyone here.

If it’s a 2021 it’s probably the newer bitdi 199 hp which as far as I know hasn’t been particularly problematic I think you’re biggest worry is the short journeys.

You are lucky you don't live on the Channel Islands.......
I have stayed on Alderneymoff and on while deting a lass from there, and diesel cars are rare there for obvious reasons!

I really wouldn’t worry to much I’ve had these vans for the last 10 years in different variants and do mixed driving some short some long and never had any big issues.Good maintenance is good practice regular servicing and a nice run every now and then.I’m afraid it’s the same with most cars you pick a good one or a bad one. Is this going to be the main vehicle in the house?
This.

We're wailing and gnashing our teeth and falling to the ground with terror, but the likelihood is you'll get away with it, particularly if youre very diligent with maintenance. Just be aware that if it does bite it'll hurt. They're certainly not as bad as JLR diesels where such a pattern of urban usage practically guarantees trouble.

I was trying to find out if there was a certain date for the problem but I just keep finding YouTube vids and posts online that say get a single turbo variant.

To be honest theyre all slightly difrerent shades of slow anyway, so youre not missing out with a single blower. People that enthuse about the BiTurbo performance must have led fairly sheltered motoring lives if that kind of lethargy excites them.

Oh yeah that would be a stark wake up coming from a stage 2 450bhp car. I've just had a chat with the garage and told them I need to process a bit more. I'm not rushing in. I watched a video from Darside last night replacing a second! BiTD engine at 70k, it must have had half an inch of soot on the inlet.

The problem mostly is reading too much into the dark side of van life… i never liked the whole leave an oil change for 20k, its too long a time, i used to own cars and religiously change the oil every 10k, used to be 6 k but for older cars… so its what you are willing to do and how you run, but i would suggest regular long drives… our excuse, run to the coast, or a country park, basically a picnic run, and just enjoy the freedom it will give that a regular car can’t, just for a heads up, heading out to Moel Famau 30-40 minute drive, get some fresh air, use the diesel heater to warm our bones, as it’s a cold one. And just relax ☺️

Even tho I use mine for work as well it makes a great family wagon. I also have had and still own fast cars but when it comes to shopping, tip runs, day trips or even holidays these vans are quality for it you can see why a lot of family’s now own these. They fit you and your family comfortably and you can still chuck all your shit in the back and still have room.
I have had single and now a bi-turbo and to be fair there ain’t much in it don’t get me wrong it’s still quick for a van but it is still just a van.I personally love these vans and wouldn’t own anything else in the van world it does everything I need it to and more.
I would say with everything in mind tho you shouldn’t purchase something you think you won’t be able to maintain if things did go wrong.
On another note yes we should be cautious in this day and age but I personally tend to not get to caught up in what may or may not happen in the future. What’s the point in worrying about something we can’t control or may never happen life’s to short. 👍

Well said, I totally agree with your last paragraph, hell its my mantra but when it comes to buying a car its not so much about can I afford to fix it if it goes wrong but 1: how likely will it happen, 2: How often, Its what has put me off buying a RR. I cant rememeber that last time I broke down in my 43 years of driving, I can afford to buy a new engine but I would rather spend that money on other things. :)

The garage just got back to me with the engine code, he sent me this from the logbook DMZA006797, not a lot comes up for that in google so im guessing its not the code but rather just the number? He sent me a pic of the page so I tried a vin lookup and even on the VW recall page it says the VIN isnt recognisable, is this normal using the log book?

That’s the engine number and indicates the van has the updated DMZA (Demelza) 204PS BiTurbo engine that was fitted to very last T6.1 Transporters (2021 -2024 MY). Unlike the two earlier BiTurbo engines ( 204PS CXEB and 199PS CXEC) the 204PS DMZA BiTurbo engine used in the later T6.1 Tranporters has so far proved not to have any significant weaknesses.
