Halogen Bulb upgrades that are not LED

200% brighter than what? The claimed % increase is above the minimum requirement for lamps. It could be that regular lamps that come fitted from the factory are "150% brighter" than the minimum, so the super duper shiny packaged uprated lamps aren't going to be all that much of an improvement.

Exactly my point, it’s based against the minimum legal requirement and tested in a lab with set parameters. Actual results will vary wildly depending on headlamp design and condition, let alone what the existing bulbs are. The Phillips GT200 bulbs are regarded/tested as the best performing so unless the OP already has them fitted he will see an improvement. Just not a 200% one (or anything near)!

I imagine that most vehicle manufacturers put in the cheapest bulbs which possibly are not good performers and closer to the lowest lega requirement. My daughters Dacia Duster 2021 AWD had less than inspiring lighting. After I reset the beam it was still gloomy so as time was running out a trip to a Halford’s was the order and a pair of Halford's H7 Halford’s 200% Brighter 3 stars only 4th on the list where installed. Although not a side by side test, we drove out that evening and the difference was very noticeable daughter very satisfied and me happier but wondering what the H7 Phillips racing Vision GT200 5 stars might have been like, probably better I am sure but any of those bulbs would give noticeable improvements.

The unfortunate thing, Halford's do not stock very much other than there own these days and we had little time to do mail order. I doubt that many high street retailers have a very good range either though I did not look around. The nice thing a very pleasant young lady fitted them too. I had been wondering how I was going to contort my hand in he very tight space offered by the duster but it only took her seconds only. It was embarrassing....

Interesting thread. Haven’t picked up my 72 plate T6.1 yet, this Friday, but I believe it has the standard headlights. Does the standard unit have two H7 bulbs in each headlight? Thanks.

No. Just one in each.
I’ve replaced the H7’s but not actually had a chance to drive in the dark yet

Dipped is H7. There is a H15 for main beam and DRL

The VW factory original fit LED Lamps are quite good. I have no idea what comparative £price the might be. However Mrs has a Yeti Motion Elegance with HID bendy lights which are really excellent and shows up the Caravelle lights by a long way having far greater intensity, spread, depth and range and can turn with the steering, spoilt.

Colour temperature, it is better for seeing where we go if bulbs lamps and so, are in a temperature range that is not too extreme because the human eye is not linier in its efficiency. I believe this might become be more of a case as we age.

I had “steered” lights on my A4 Avant and absolutely loved them. Was so disappointed when I bought a 2018 A3 and found it wan’t an option across the range. Apparently people didn’t like them. I call bullshit and that there was a switch to fixed LEDs.

Jumping back on this thread, I ended up installing the full Audi style LED headlamps from transporter HQ. Very pleased I did, they are awesome and passed recent MOT no problem.
