Halfords - never again

Had a couple of cheap tyres fitted today at Halfords (look ok - in fact quite like the tread pattern - just needed a couple of cheapies to work out if my lifting springs at the back are causing wear on one side - it’s minimal - or maybe I should check pressures more often aka more than once a year 😉 / not the point of this thread.

Booked in for 1pm (pre-booked) drive out at 3.45 - an absolute joke, missed school pick up and had to do 4 pm works meeting in back of van on my phone.

Rant over - but feel better 😂

So my question - van much heavier drivers side as has kitchen and water tank / anyone put more pressure in one side?

Running 17 inch tyres.

I don’t think varying tyre pressures according to the load distribution port and starboard is a good idea. I stick to the tyre sizes, load rating and pressures on the manufacturers spec’. Anything outside of these values may make you negligent in the event of an accident.

I'm surprised you waited so long. I'd have driven away by 1.30. I also never pay for anything up front, so would have been happy to leave.

Was going to aftet 2 hours as said I needed to to school run - they said it would be next and out by 3 pm - stuck it on a ramp took wheels off - and it sat there - lesson learnt.

Good point

I wouldn't trust then to fit a pair of wiper blades let alone tyres! Bunch of monkeys🐒 (most of which are kids).
I've seen them struggle to fit wiper blades outside my local branch.
Also bulbs ...if you can't fit a bulb yourself then you shouldn't be trusted to dress yourself of a morning .

Agree about Halfords but changing a bulb on some cars these days is not that straightforward- had to remove the bumper on my daughters Corsa to change the headlight bulb!

Yep ,more and more motors these days involve removing the front bumper to replace a headlight bulb .
We used to joke about taking one of these into halfauds and getting them to fit one for a tenner . 🤣 while we stand and watch.
Seriously though I wouldn't want them near any of my motors .
We saw a 'halfauds mobile expert' (child) in a van yesterday morning cruising through weston super mare with orange beacons and fog lights on .

One nice thing about the Volvos I've owned over the years - pop the bonnet, pull 2 pins, and the headlamp sides out as a complete unit with no tools required, a sub 5 second job. You can then cry tears of joy as you change the bulb, safe in the knowledge you're not paying the dealer 0.6 of an hours labour just to change a bulb, or let the Hellfrauds work experience boy anywhere near it.

Sadly Volvo's new Chinese overlords have reverted to the old ways where you'd probably need acetylene to remove a headlamp on Mrs Sasquatch's new motor, although being LED it would hopefully never need to come out anyway.
