Genuine ambient lighting with footwell lights

I am going to look at some subtle led lights in my door cards for this reason.

I have a t6.1 also with footlights.

So my thought process after looking at factory wiring schematics, was to splice the bottom door card lights in with the footwell lights as I like the idea of these only coming on when the ambient exterior light levels are low (not checked their function during the day) and go off when ignition on.
I think it is called 'entry lights'.

However, the interior door card lights, I am looking to splice these on the KL58 wires that control dimming on instrumentation lights. This way they will only be on again I believe when ambient exterior light levels are low or going through a tunnel. Plus I think you can control these channels through the vans infoscreen.

I’ve got both courtesy & the ambient lights from linked above from VanStyle.

Wiring for the ambient is linked into the backlighting for the dash controls & comes on with auto lights, dimmable from the flywheel next to the headlight control.

The additional footwell courtesy lighting comes on separate & only with doors open as you’d expect.

Did you have footwell lights originally T6plumber? Seats look mega.

Gents I'm not sure if I've made a mistake,
I purchased the kit from Vantsyle, and being hasty realsied now it says for cabs without footwell lights.

So has anyone actually fitted this kit to a van with footwell lights?

Cos I'm thinking if this kit operates from the backlight for the dash, then is essence you end up with a white set of footwell (original and come on when door opens) and a blue set (which come on when vehicle key inserted and dashboard is on)

Or will fitting them bugger up the wiring setup for the van, if so I may be safer putting them up for sale, or trying to return.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers Ali

I’m not 100% sure if this is the only reason, but I think the lower dash plastics have a designated spot for either ambient or courtesy light modules. There isn’t another knockout on the plastic. So if you’ve already got courtesy footwell lighting in that spot then you’ll need to cut the additional ambient ones in yourself.

My van didn’t have either, so the aftermarket courtesy light modules went in on the plastics in the pre determined position & my ambients were put in next to them.

The wiring is exactly as you imagined, so that’s why I think it’s just down to a lack of pre made positions on the plastics that they would say that it’s either/or…

That certainly makes sense thank you, I'd be more than happy to cut out an extra hole. Its risking the electrics side with me being a novice on this front.

I'm no rush at moment as I'm going to put one of those front badge EHU connectors in behind the badge and run a cable to the rear of the cab to another socket, so on site its a neat way of having your EHU set up. It wont actually be wired into the van at all but I'll be pulling the carpet up in the drivers well to route the wire through. As I've seen a grommit on the drivers side from the engine bay which will make life easy, so I way do these two jobs at once.

Are you happy with your mood lighting though.

cheers Ali

Yes mate I’m extremely happy with them. They give off a nice blue colour & not distracting at all. Being able to dim them to personal preference is an added bonus.
