fuselayout 2.jpg2 slots above the centre run two red 10amp fuses is the slot where my dc-dc piggy back is normally located. On the left of the slot you can see a silver metal thingymabob. This is not present in any other open slots. Am I right in thinking this is the pin that gets inserted into a rear of a slot that is going to be utilised, and it's job is to hold the fuse and allow the attachment of the output (fused) live towards the consumer?

In all open slots you can see a metallic thingymabob on the right hand side of the slot, is this like a bus bar feeding 12v to all the right hand side of all slots?

Is my piggy back inserted incorrectly in the picture below.

You are correct, the terminal on the RHS of the slots is a common bus bar. You piggy back is upside down. The +12v for your new circuit is travelling through the existing fuse first.
