Just started to get this. On the first occasion it was late afternoon driving into bright, low sunshine. Assumed that may have caused it. But tonight it came on again driving home in the dark. Roads were wet with lots of traffic, but not raining. It did go out on both occasions.

Im hoping its not as a result of the big build just been carried out. The headlights were upgraded, and obviously all the interior out for the sound deadening 🤔

I thought VW use radar, not cameras. Light levels shouldn’t affect radar.
Is the sensor clear sighted and not been misaligned when work was carried out?

Is it located in that square in the centre of the bumper ?

If so there is nothing obstructing it. I cant comment on misalignment. I would hope it was put back on as it came off.

That’s it - small square (approximately 100mm?) in the lower front bumper.
I not sure it’s fixed to the bumper or if it’s mounted behind.

My Golf has thrown that error message a couple of times (maybe four in 11 years) and it’s never been an issue so you might just want to monitor for now.

I had heard modern crisp packets can cause the error if you drive through litter. Or dense snow etc. Not sure how accurate some of the claims are.
It works a damn sight better than the optical systems though, especially Tesla which would literally drive into a wall in some cases!

Cheers buddy I appreciate that. I drove over 200mls home when I picked it up and saw no warnings or error messages.

Well its not going away anytime soon. I have been reading that a misalignment issue can take some time to reveal itself once the system decides it doesnt trust the data it has been gathering & logging. I can only assume the bumper removal to fit my new headlights was the catalyst 🤷‍♂️

Need to get the codes read I guess.

I should add as its the right thing to do, there is no finger pointing. If anything im jumping to conclusions without anything to back it up yet.

Nothing to do with finger pointing, basic fault finding. Eliminate the easy & cheap suspects first.

So just to update I dug out my OBDeleven dongle and plugged it in. I have been driving it around 50 or 60mls since I cleared the fault code below. As yet it hasnt returned, but it could still be gathering data. I remain very cautiously optimistic.

Mine was playing up with no work done on my T6.1 Sportline and was off for a few months. Took it to main dealer who done a reset and said the sensor had ‘glitched’.
Been working fine since which was about a year ago.

Yeah I mean the guys must have removed and put back hundreds of bumpers. But I have read its a sensitive sensor and recalibration is very common. So will have to wait & see if it continues to behave.

You havnt said what year your van is.
Is it still under warranty?
Apparently I was asked if the sensor was clean on the windscreen too.
