Hi All. Been to look at a van today. Here are the highlights: T6.1 T32 LWB Diesel 2.0 TDI 150 Highline DSG 2022. Tailgate, 2 sliding doors and 17” alloys. Purchasing to convert. Meets my preferred spec other than colour but that’s not a deal breaker. Price £28k excl VAT. Parker’s dealer price is £26.5k. Mileage 65k.

What are your thoughts about the service history? Photos attached.

On the sliding doors and tailgate there are additional locks. All the locks have some kind of damage to paintwork - see photo as an example - they are unsightly. I’d rather get them removed. Would a good body shop be able to restore the doors? And how would that affect installing windows on the sliding doors?

Your thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.

Evening

So has it only had 3 services?
Should have had a dsg oil change around 40,000 not 64,000.
That seems a lot of money for a panel van with that milage.
You say £28,000 excluding vat is there vat to be added?

I’m afraid I would personally keep looking.
Nearly £34,000 all in is an awful lot of money for a panel van with that milage. Don’t get me wrong it’s not big miles but it is for that price.
The service history is not great it’s basically gone 35,000 miles in between last 2 services

It’s only had 3 services. At the 2nd service the mileage was 28,873. 17 months later it had its 3rd service having done a fu 35,500 miles, a total of 64,527 miles. I reckon it should have had another service during that period.

The MOT had advisories on brake pads and 3 of the tyres. The Ford dealership have replaced brake pads, put on new tyres and plan to get it MOT again.

I wasn’t impressed with the service history either Chippie
Me either. The gaps are too big - if nothing else it shows a lack of care/thought toward vehicle longevity. Some businesses will see their vans as an asset they can minimise losses on (resale, breakdowns etc) but to others vans are just a tool to be run as cheaply as possible with no care on resale values. Shortsighted to some, zero effort to others.

A service every year rather than done on mileage by the looks of things + no DSG service like others have mentioned.

You’d want at least another 2 services on that history for those mileages in my opinion!

How many owners?

I'd also be factoring in a cambelt/water pump change in the not too distant future at 65k, despite the new VW guidance.

Been used and abused. Walk away… I’d be looking £20k tops for that van.

Also, because the of locks, the anticorrosion warranty will be void, and depending on the dealer it could be void for the entire van due to the “modification”.

Thanks nedwood. That’s good news and makes so much more sense. Had read previous threads but I still was a bit confused by the whole subject
