I bought some of these the other day as recommended by @T6ARF and they seem good value and up to the job.

I haven’t fitted them yet, but started to wonder what would happen if I drove off a curb from pavement and onto the road. I obviously want to fit them low enough so they will do the job but don’t want them ripped off and damaging the arch liner as I come off the curb. (they do bend, but they’re also quite ridged)

Have you had this problem T6ARF or am I over worrying?!

My ones are OEM and a lot stiffer than them. And they just bend.

I do like the looks of those tho.

I might get some to play with.

They will bend dropping off a kerb. It's if you reverse up a kerb and pinch it between the kerb and the tyre that it will get ripped off.

Come to think of it, that's probably why the OEM rear ones are so far back.

Lol...

I was thinking about planting some seeds.

The vans not been washed since last summer before the water ban.

You have a water ban?? Still in place? We live in Scotland. I don't recall any water bans here, quite the opposite in fact.

I don’t think you’re over worrying…. it’s a legitimate question? My van is lowered by 80mm and until recently the only time the front flaps caught on anything was going over high speed bumps in a local supermarket. To be fair though I don’t go up or down kerbs in my van…. that’s a big no no for me, so I couldn’t comment on what might happen if you’re intending to do that. I have raised the front ones up recently, due to working on a property that has quite a high drop kerb…. no problem going in, but on the way out my van would drop and catch the mud flaps…. it didn’t seem to be doing any damage, but I just couldn’t be doing with the noise it made! So I purchased another set and refitted using the originals as a template, but taking them up a couple of inches…. problem sorted!

I’ve been up and down high curbs a fair few times at right angles…. I seem to treat the van more like a swamper. It currently sits at about 460mm with a full conversion as I raised it back up 20 mills.

I actually wish the mudflaps were a couple of inches longer as I’ve got some Agilis cross climates on and I want to set them about 7 inches off the road to prevent my stones chipping someone else’s windscreen. The problem is then it’s sitting a bit low in the wheel arch. Problems problems!

@dubber36 I hadn’t thought about getting it jammed between the wheel and the curb. I’ll have to be careful about that I suppose although I had realised that when reversing the wheel is going anticlockwise, so will actually be pushing the flap away in most scenarios.

I’ll post what they’re like when I have decided on the height and fit them.

there's no holes in them to mount. . .

so. . . how did we measure up and drill out the holes and get the right place?

this was my other option before:

This is just the way I did it…. remove the wheel…. mount the flap with something like masking tape to get it where you want it, then drill carefully through both the flap and the plastic wheel arch liner (in the most suitable place where the liner touches the flap). I’m pretty sure it was an 8mm drill bit…. then simply push/screw in the supplied fixings.
