Fitting a dash cam

Just bought a Miofive dash cam for the T6.1.
Planning on fitting it next to the rear view mirror.
Initially thinking of using the 12v socket on top of the dash before going down the hard wire route.
Thinking of feeding the cable up in the headlining and along to the drivers side pillar. Coming out of there, along the dash then plugging in.
A couple of questions.
Is the 12v socket permanent live?
How easy to remove/replace the pillar cover? Does it clip out/in

Any advice would be splendid!

Plug something into the socket and see if it goes off when you turn the ignition off.

If it is a Dashcam with parking mode you may need two feeds to use all the features - one to constant live and one to live when ignition on - otherwise it won’t know to switch mode.

Hardwire kits are not too bad to fit - they come with piggy back fuses - you pop out a fuse, plug it in and then put the fuse you took out into the back of it - just use fuses that are not too important I.e don’t use an airbag fuse.
