First oil change and dealer needs the van overnight!

8,000 miles and the van was telling me it needed an oil change. I had a day in my schedule where I didn't need the van, so booked it in.

I've called this afternoon to see if it's ready only to be told they need to keep it overnight as they're awaiting some "recall parts". I wanted an oil change, not a full-on service.

I now can't work tomorrow as a result and, as I'm self employed, that's cost me almost £1,000 unless I manage to find another van in time (not having any luck at the moment).

Not happy.

Pathetic stealer - name and shame!

If my van was having some "recall parts" changed I'd want to know what they were, I think they're telling porkies.
Just not good enough when it's messing your work around.

Exactly that

Or one of the mechanics wants your EGR unit for his van.

I’ve had dealers do that to me a few times over the years, no problem, I’ll get a taxi home and hire a car for the day tomorrow.

They’ve always found a vehicle for me to take home once I drop that on them.

Maybe your van is someone else's courtesy vehicle tonight?
I've checked WeConnect and it has spent the night at the dealer with the bonnet and driver's door open.

For an oil change.

I'm really annoyed they didn't tell me they might need it longer than one day. Thankfully I've managed to borrow a friend's 4x4 which my kit will fit into.

Anyone who's interested, it's Brian Currie Milton Keynes.

Glad you got transport for work. Don’t forget to get a list of all the recall parts (which ought to have recall notices/reasons associated) to see if they were telling fibs! I’d also ask why you weren’t contacted to come in for those recalls

Perhaps they didn’t look at your van until nearly closing up time and didn’t want to admit as much…?

That would be my guess.
It’ll be interesting to see what they say about the recall parts though.

Wish I'd checked We Connect throughout the day now!

They also said they'd call first thing today to say how long it'd be before I could collect it. No such call has happened.

I hate having to deal with main dealerships - they don't have to try because they know customers have very little choice.

But you do have a choice.
As long as genuine parts are used you can go anywhere.

We normally get complaints of dealers not picking up on things, so I think you have a diligent tech working on your van.
However, the service booking part of the business should have run your VIN as you were booking it in and advised that there were service actions due and set an appropriate expectation.
