Firefly For Bluetooth Connection.

I have a Samsung phone and to connect it to my head unit to get Android Auto/Deezer to work I have to use the USB connection on the dash.

I cannot simply bluetooth the phone to the headset and play music from the phone, it doesn't work, although my daughters iphone does.

Would this work as an alternative to save plugging in?

Nope,

that will have the same outcome.

that gadget just converts the phones analogue audio signal from the headphone socket to a RF Bluetooth connection.

the USB bit is just to power the BT device . . .(no data from the phone to the van via that socket)

So for now its a cabled connection for Android Auto . . . . . =[

as far as im aware . . . (and for my testing too. samsung GS7 + Discovery Media HU)

some details here --->

Android Auto on your car display (with a USB cable)
  1. An Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher with a data plan. For best performance, we recommend Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and higher.
  2. A car that's compatible with Android Auto.
  3. A high-quality USB cable.
  4. The Android Auto app.

Android Auto on your car display (wireless)
  1. A car or aftermarket receiver that is compatible with Android Auto Wireless.
  2. A Pixel or Nexus phone with Android 8.0 (Oreo) or higher as follows:
    • Pixel or Pixel XL
    • Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL
    • Nexus 5X or 6P
  3. The Android Auto app version 3.1 and higher.
  4. A high-quality USB cable for initial setup.

I run a Samsung phone which i 99% of the time stream music via USB cable with android auto for better quality , but i can also do the same via Bluetooth streaming. If i dont connect the lead it just plays through the head unit. You dont need android auto for that ?

I can't stream direct from phone, it's only android auto for me.

I can conect my phone via bluetooth.

It will play the phone call audio and stream the audio like mp3 from then phone.

Not sure about Deezer, but I can play YouTube and podcasts Etc through the bluetooth connection.

But for full android auto I need to connect the usb cable. (Galaxy s7 phone & discovery media headunit)

Yes as above.

I stream my music from Tidel but they all work via Bluetooth on mine..google play/spotify etc.

Mine shows a Bluetooth phone device and a Bluetooth audio device, it’s the same phone but the stereo seems to treat it like two devices
It’s been a while since I set it up but think you just need to configure it as a media device also

There are different profiles for Bluetooth connections, e.g.:
  • Hands-Free profile (HFP) - for phone calls
  • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) - for Audio Streaming
Each will show as separate connections.
