Excessive Soot VW Dealer Diagnostics

Well my 2019 T32 biTDI is in for diagnostics and VW Coventry tomorrow for 2 days

They inform me that my van has excessive soot levels and needs to be investigated

Given the known issues with this engine I’m puzzled to why they need it for 2 days given we all know what the likely causes will be

Any ideas what diagnostics they will be performing over a 2 days given period?

Possibly DPF clogged?

Do you drive mainly shower journeys?

Sorry more details below

CXEB engine

Dealer mentioned the excessive soot after van was in for service

Mainly short journeys but a couple of long journeys per month

I assume this is seriously going to hurt my wallet? Still waiting to hear back from them. Will probably take to an independent to get fixed as really don’t want pay dealer rates

Oh and it’s out of warranty so unless anyone has suggestions on how I can argue my case as a known issue I’ll be paying through the nose for this one!

Many Short journeys not great for a diesel.... Especially the 204 bitdi.

Did you notice it doing lots of regens?

Higher revs, fans on after key off?

...

Separately, if it using a lot of oil?

Fan is on usually after a drive, not using oil
That tells me it's not completing the Regen cycle.

It takes 30-40mins driving to complete.

Your DPF may be clogged.

They may do a forced Regen to try and clear it.

But if it's to clogged it will need replacing via VW ... It's an Indy may try and off vehicle clean.

Either way if the fans are in it's a sign you need to to take it up the duel carriageway for an hour. . Once every 150miles or twice per tank of fuel .

I could but I’d be none the wiser, I’ll let you know what has been done in the way of testing for future reference

It may be useful to some on here hopefully

Well it’s 3 days and counting but I’d think they are only doing tests when they can otherwise I’m gonna have to take out a mortgage to pay off the invoice!

Turns out the issue was the EGR pipe which had a broken seal

Just got the health check video so will find out the financial damage tomorrow

Apparently I also need a air con service but I’ll get this done elsewhere

I guess they look at a system on their computer and it tells them what work is due as part of a service schedule. I doubt they are looking at these types of things as part of a diagnostic procedure
