ELM37 reader an Carista

Can or has anybody connected the Carista app to a different ELM37 reader. I have a decent quality reader so don't particularly want to buy another. I also have a Foxwell NT530+ scanner although I need to add Volkswagon software to this.
I'm looking to do some customisations to my 2018 T6 Kombi

Carista can use any true ELM327 dongle. Carista's own dongles are just rebadged vGate products.
