EGR replacement cost.

My 2017 T6 camper seems to require a replacement EGR valve. I've just been quoted £2300 to £2400 by an independent VW specialist!
I'm a bit staggered by the amount but have very little info to base a decision as to whether this is a rip off or an acceptable amount to pay.
I'm very reluctant to use the main dealer because I lost faith in them years ago. Any thoughts?

I would look for a good preferably recommended Independent VAG Specialist.

They may not have flashy show rooms and typing pools full of glamours models answering the phones but do excellent work normally using genuine VW parts and test equipment. Some may even have VAG trained technicians on the team. They will be less expensive and thorough. I have used one as soon as initial warranty expired and would not return to a main dealer.

Ring round for some more quotes.

It's worth getting a dealer price. You get a 2 year warranty if they fit an OE part, twice as long long as anywhere else, so it's worth making the call to at least ask.

The EGR valve is a £600 part and a £1000 job all in at Volkswagen.

So you need to ask for the written quote, as there must be loads of extra stuff?

That was on my cxeb engine, so what engine have you got?

Mine was £1k +VAT from a local VW independent garage nearly two years ago for a 2016 T6 so I'd expect an inflationary rise on that. They used genuine parts and did a great job - resolved all the issues I'd been having.

just had mine done at Van-Tech in Uckfield, just over a grand incl vat, very pleased with the service. They did say that its more if its an automatic gear box, mine is manual

Mine is booked in with a local indi for the end of the month £1K with genuine parts.

Bit steep. I think mine was £1400 from a dealer. The extra warranty and piece of mind won it for me. Next time it's getting mapped out.

Swapped ours out just over 4 years ago , bought a genuine valeo part to match the existing part number and took a couple of hours to fit it myself (including the dropping of many bolts and the cursing)
Cost less than £500 .

(Tip - do not attempt this on a gravel drive where if you drop anything it vanishes without a trace )

Mines in for something EGR related. ~£850 iirc, so likely valve only, I'll try to remember to update this once I've got it back and more details.

As an aside where, pray tell, does one map it (and hated adblue/dpf) out? And are there mot implications? Forgive my ignorance, first T6 and just moved from overseas (no mot, different system)

Any of those modifications is a UK MOT failure. All UK motor insurance policies state that the vehicle must be roadworthy when on the road.

What DXX says.
These bureaucrats unfortunately run the DoT, insurance companies, police, judiciary, prisons and, if you really get to map it out, executioners.
