Edging Around Cupboard Doors

Maybe a very thick question but recently viewed a camper van and there is cupboards above the cooker (little ones) and the seal around the outside of them all has a split in. The owner stated that this is for them to expand, they almost look split? Is this correct.

Sounds like badly fitted knock on edging with a sprinkle of bullsh1t

It comes in a continuous length, so there will be a join, usually you'd have the join on the underside of the lower doors
and on top of the higher ones to hide it as best you can... sometimes the upper door join is between the hinges.
It shouldn't be a noticeable gap though. Its just a 'T' section that you tap into a routed slot.

If there is only the one 'split' then its the ends joining and sounds like if its that obvious that the trim is either shrinking or was cut too short originally. Normally its cut with a short overlap to prevent gaps appearing
