DSG Oil service - service interval change

FYI only.

The van is in to VW for its last service plan service, I've just been informed that VW has changed the recommended DSG oil interval from 40K miles down to 37K miles in the last couple of weeks.
Shouldn't affect most of you but if you have a van still under warranty it may affect you.

Cheers
Dave

Yes, they don't give a reason why.

They've also changed the cambelt change period to 125K miles, no specifics on period.
Mines a 2019 T6.1

Erm, I’d ask for a copy of the official guidance from VW about that!
Probably wise, although ask them in two different ways about timing belt intervals and you traditionally receive two different answers.

Is there a date on that? Reason I ask is because if the dealer are not leading the OP up the garden path then it'll be relatively new guidance and will supercede anything more than a few months old.

No idea on provenance - image was posted on the California forum a couple of days ago!

Hi Dave, do you know when they've changed this? Do you have any links or I for as to anything official as this could be exactly what I need

I'm currently in discussions about this at present

My gear box service was done last year in September at 39,007 miles (van has now done 42,500 roughly)

My gear box is now needing replacing and they are saying that it should have had the oil change at 37,000 so the extended warranty are saying it's not a warranty issue

I have tried stating that the VW garage never mentioned this when it was serviced at 29,500 miles

The warranty guy is saying I would need to take it up with them

Thanks Eddie

hi Eddie
I received the info from the service department at VW Reading (Marshalls), they've been pretty good tbh compared to previous dealers
Apparently guidance changed within the last few weeks (They mentioned last couple of months, I asked specifically when this was changed). At my last service May 25, they did still tell me it was 40K (that was Cordwallis Maidenhead), this time they flagged it up as needing to be done at 37K. Mine is currently sitting at 35,500 miles and this was flagged on the service report.

BTW, any feedback on the cheapest place to get this done? I still have warranty on the van for a few months so would prefer to keep it in the VW official services for the moment. Based in Reading.

I have found out online that this has only changed in May 2026

Yeah I'm thinking that but I am also thinking they are trying to use a technicality that it may say in my owners book 60,000km as that's Europe's recommendations

It seems it's only been the UK that's upted to round it up

Surely it is the UK VW that we come under

They cant change the interval AFTER you have had it done then deny on that basis !

I would layout all the facts in writing to them and if they reject again then open a case with VWUK, just remember to document everything and get as much as you can in writing (email) so you can refer back to it at a later date if needs be
They can be a*holes so prepare to dig your heels in

Yeah thanks for the advice

1 thing I have been known for is not letting things go, right up to the point where I can piss everyone off 🤦

It is generally only when I'm right and others aren't doing things correctly so hopefully this is something that will come in handy for me on this issue

Thanks again and I will update if / when I can
