Drivers door lock - steady red LED

Hi all. I have just bought a 2017 T6.

When locking the van with the key fob the drivers door does not lock. It only locks when inserting the key. The red LED on the lock stays on (not flashing) All other doors lock with the fob.

I can't seem to find any answer for my problem.

Also, the barn door does not open from the inside, only the outside.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Possibly there is an issue with the locking solenoid in that door if it's jamming leaving the door in a "locking but not locked" state.

Are there any other odd lock behaviours on that door, does it show as open or closed at unusual times? If you listen does the mechanism on that side make any noise at all when you try and lock with the fob?

Have you tried locking with the key from the passenger side - I can't remember if that triggers the global central locking on a Transporter but if it does might be useful to narrow down the issue to the remote locking or the lock motor.

Thanks for your reply.

When I lock it with the fob it makes a sound and then another sound. The lock on the door doesn't go down at all unless I use the key or do it from the inside.

I will try locking the passenger door with the key and report back.

I was hoping the contact clean trick will work but no luck so far

Hi Jaz T6

Did you find out what the problem was with the lock on your T6 drivers door. I am now having exactly the same issue on my 2017 T6 it was working fine before I removed my door card this morning now it’s the same issue you were having I have had the door card back off checked all the wiring plugs etc but can’t find the issue.

If it makes a secondary locking noise, it may be that the deadlocking is disengaging (like when you double press the lock button). You’d be best to read the codes with a diagnostic reader.

The solid red LED indicates an issue with the locking.

I had the same problem, none of the doors would lock on door switch or by remote, also the display didn’t show door open or closed.
Ordered the door lock actuator and the fun began.
Removed door card, unclipped the windows and door wiring switch after popping that out, door panel(card) away from door undone the alarm wire and door catch clip, resulting in door card removed. Connected the door lock and window switch back up, removed the 2 black grommets, listened the window glass holders, only do this a couple of turns till loose as you don’t want the holder falling apart. Careful lift glass to top and tape in place using masking or tape of choice, I put it top top bottom for better strength. Carefully undo the bolts around the plate, and then carefully pull away from the door itself, lowering and wiggling out. I spent time looking for how to release the door lock, which my advice is this, remove the rubber cover, carefully loosen the door lock screw until it comes out, as too much it falls apart and you’ll spend time putting it back in place. Once the lock barrel is out, tighten up so it holds the mechanism in place. Unclip the handle wire, then Undo the connectors from the lock, undo the bolts holding in place and slide out. The plastic surround needs to be removed, unclipped from the actuator body, ( mine was white) then undo the connectors and your ready to refit the new actuator. It is a bit of a fiddly reverse procedure, most fiddly is getting the wire back on to the handle, the lock in with out it falling apart. Once connected, providing you have the window and lock switch connected up, you can see if turn ignition on your door open again. I checked the door locked and unlocked with the handle by using a screwdriver in the door mechanism to simulate closing.. hooray it worked. I reconnected everything and before putting the card back in placed, and window reconnected to the lifters, I checked the window ran up and down OK, then lowered and shut the door, opened it, all was OK so tried lock on the door and by fob and all working. Only then did I refit everything. Not as easy as written, but first time of doing and with some googling of the lock and bits as weren’t sure, took me just over 3 hours. If this is of help Good, as it worried me at the start, but now I’d have no hesitation in doing for others, or answer any questions. Take and Happy travels, as in October 2024 we brought our 2017 T6, have had the pop top fitted in March 25, and since turned it from a standard van to a camper. She’s looking lovely and this lock prevented us going away today the day of replacing. We are now getting ready to travel, as with U tube videos and help from others, we/you can do anything… Enjoy!! Best regards, Steve …A very happy Dub owner!!
