Door activated lights powered from leisure battery

Hi guys,

I have used the under dash door activated power feeds that most of us use for mood lighting to power my door cards and other ambient led lights.

I was wondering, can i use that same feed to switch a relay (powered by the leisure battery) as i would like to run the additional ambient leds from my leisure battery or do i need a power separated switch thing?

Any advice would be welcome

It seems popular mod to power all the lights from the leisure battery and a non-latching relay is essentially a power separated switch thing so it would work.
Just bear in mind that the BCM supply has a dimming function which isn't ideal for the relay coil.

Thank you, i had forgotten the dimming function.

I ask as i went away last week and found the ambient lights were staying on for extremely long periods occasionally when the sliding door was left open. It was really odd and really random.

My ambient lighting is fed from the light switch, comes on automatically with the lights and dims with dashboard dimmer switch. In addition, I have small switch in the B pillar so i can turn on the ambient in the rear of the van fed from the leisure battery. E34F0FE2-7557-415D-BB87-06E85D67532C.jpeg
