Dog box

The wife and I go everywhere with our cocker spaniel, and he travels in a transk9 box that we moved from our Tiguan when we got the van.

I’m wondering if anyone has built an enclosure around a dog box? And if so; what did you use to fix it to the frame of the van with?

My van is lined, and at the moment the dog crate is secured in with a ratchet strap, but feel I’m losing a lot of space above the box as I can’t put anything there!

If anyone has a pictures of their load bay with a frame around their dog box that would be appreciated! Give me some ideas!!

Im also looking at a solution for our cocker spaniel, considering the ‘Bruich Beag Kitchen pod and Dog crate’ from Ply Guys, but quite pricey so keen to see what other options people have…

We also have a cocker spaniel who loves her TransK9 crate in the back of our Volvo, but I just couldn't find an off the shelf solution that worked for us when we got our Kombi fairly recently.

I've fitted a Forty Winks in the Kombi for us to sleep on and wanted a solution that the dog could travel safely in as well as sleep in. We looked at a couple of options that could have gone under the Forty Winks, but would have been pretty dark for the dog, and would have meant always getting her out of the tailgate, which can be a pain in car parks.

Instead, we decided to remove the single seat from the rear bench and get a custom Lintran crate made that aligns with Forty Winks and rest of the slightly sloping bench when folded flat so we can sleep over the top. Side opening so she can hop straight in from the sliding door and also a front door so she curls up in it with the door open if we're sat in the captains chairs.

See photos attached. Would recommend Lintran if others are looking for a similar solution (and now they know the measurements).

Now that's neat, how do you secure the cage to stop it moving about whilst driving.

Mines work in progress as I will make it a kombi/day van but at the moment work dictates that I need to carry tools..
I will watch this with interest for when I start to change.

I have used M6 u-bolts to secure it to the four seat mounting points in the floor. It's not going anywhere in a hurry, but I can still remove it in 5 minutes if needed.
