DIY Window Mosquito Nets

I set out with the idea to make some custom DIY mosquito nets for the new glass with windows on my T6.1.

I started off designing a 2 part frame from TPU that would pinch the netting keeping it tensioned and also make a nice lip around the outside to fit either side of the 4mm window opening.

You'll notice some cut lines in the image as I don't have a 3D printer big enough to print it in one part so I split it into multiple parts. I then tried to join all the parts whilst pinching the net and I can only say it very quickly got on my nerves so I decided to print a frame.

Once the guide frame was printed I could effectively lay out the TPU, lay the netting on top and then pinch it down with the guide frame before pinching the parts together and screwing.

I managed to get it looking nice and I popped out to try it in the window and it works great. Obviously this is only a prototype as it is too weak at the joins but I'll be talking to a mate this week to try and print it in one piece on a 450x450 print bed.

Now for the real purpose of the post, does anyone have any constructive criticism, ideas or alternative solutions to achieve what I am aiming for here?

Thanks

Very Clever!

Looks good. I would also be interested in a slatted, louvre type vent that would be ok left in while driving to promote air flow to the dogs in the back. The netting one you are working on would be perfect for when parked up, not sure how it would hold up at 80mph on a French autoroute?

It’s not quite clear from the pics, you may already have done what I’m about to suggest. Stagger the joints in the 2 frames, so that the joints in the “inside” frame are at 45deg to the outside frame. Apologies if you’ve already done this.

Nothing stops those evil bas***ds!

Pulled up to a B&B on the banks of Loch Arrochar in full bike gear, kept everything on while we unloaded the bikes, even kept the visor down on my full face helmet and my gloves on. Got to the room, kit off, bitten to buggery!
