After being messed around with a van I wanted to fly back to the UK to view and hopefully buy, I'm going to make best use of my flights and have found two potential options near my home back in the UK.

One is Indium Grey, my favourite colour and a good price, but it's a manual.

The other is black, but DSG, Low mileage and has the LED lights which I know are worth alot.

Both are barn doors, which whilst I'd want a tailgate - i could live with barn doors, not sure there are that many real benefits to the tailgate.

I am not sure about the black one, do they get really hot in the sun? Anyone got any two tone with black?

Not all LED lights are the expensive factory versions.....
Yeah that's true, I mean the THQ ones I notice aren't that expensive. But did think if I get like 1k knocked off, that's at least the tailgate sorted. But then it's black...

Even the factory lights add little, if anything, to the actual value of the van.

Any yes, black gets mighty hot in the sun. Not that I'd suggest white if it isn't your thing, it is reason Ford started the trend of painting them white atnrhe factory in the eatly 70s (a mid grey was the standard factory colour.)

Tailgate is nice, have one myself. In certain circumstances has minor advantages but day to day really makes little difference, so you're right not to get over excited for o e.

Happy shopping!

The black van will look fantastic.
But only for a few hours after you've polished it, after that it'll look crap.

My previous van was Starlight Blue that got hot enough in the sun, so I imagaine Black would be worse, but it had factory LED's which i always thought were very good.

I would have preferred a DSG but I’ve had this manual one a good few years now and I’m happy. I love my barn doors too, I’ve never had a tailgate version (apart from the type 2 which isn’t a full opening) and don’t feel I’m missing out.
I swore to myself I’d never have another black car or van though as they do get blooming hot plus they show dust, dirt, scratches etc and then you start worrying- does it look uncared for, will people parking next to it treat it worse because of that…?
Even my black motorbike is starting to annoy me with the dust/scratches. They look so good when cleaned and polished, as DaveD said, but that doesn’t last at all.

Had a black Disco4 once. First and last black vehicle I’ll ever own.
Black was not my first choice but the best value, right spec van turned up and I went for it.
I have lived with it for a while and I can also say it will be the last black vehicle I will own.
Hot in the summer, always dirty, every small mark or scratch stands out massively........mine is a work van so I'm not that precious about its looks but still annoyed with the colour.
My old van was silver, my next one will be I am pretty certain.

If Barn Doors were so great, VW would put them on Shuttles/Caravelles/California’s etc…

There’s a reason they don’t. Don’t let the tailgate envy crew sway you otherwise! 😂

What’s your budget/location/spec wish list?

So I have the opportunity to buy one vat free, so up to I think around 26k...

Must be:

SWB
150bhp

Ideally:

Indium Grey
DSG
Tailgate

Would be nice:

Heated seats
Upgraded Stereo
LED

Ah yeah, ideally T6.1 because the adaptive cruise appeals to me (though I know T6 can have it rarely) and not above 70k

That's a nice one! Though for that much I think I could probably wait out for DSG.

I could go nationwide, I'd be flying over from Germany anyway :)
