Cutting Altro Flooring

Hi All,

We're at the stage of our conversion where we've installed a Smartbed with the rail system and built up the floor with ply.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips about cutting the altro flooring to match the rail outline? Ideally we want to butt up right against the rails and do without the rubber coverings but that may take some doing!

Any tips appreciated.

Try to make a template for the entire floor from card/paper first, lay it over your altro and mark it out.

From my DIY experience in laying vinyl floors, cutting the edges in situ is not accurate enough unless you are experienced in laying the stuff.

Use a concave blade crease the vinyl into were your gonna cut place the knife like in pic and you should get a near perfect cut just take your time you only get one shot with that stuff. I'm a carpet /vinyl fitter

You are a carpet/vinyl fitter, so have more experience of when a cut will be right.

Im not but I've laid a dozen or so vinyls as a competent DIYer over the decades and I still cant get an accurate enough edge that I would leave on show without trim

Altro is expensive stuff to get wrong.

I'm in the flooring trade and as @Mike88 says concave blades are used as well as hooked blades although my fitters also template altro @Oldrat

Thanks all for the replies. As we're fitting flush to the rails it may be slightly trickier to crease the altro against them so we'll try a template.
